I agree when I see some spoiled brats... Again this comes down to the effort and time put in to teaching and PARENTING.
I will not get into my past in a public forum, all I know is, I will not raise my hand to my kids in anger. Doing so would only serve to show a lack of care and parenting skill.
Children can be taught discipline without the use of such force.
Hurting a child on purpose is hurting a child on purpose, whether it's a little bit, a lot, or often. Regardless to the degree of force used, it makes no difference.
I would advise anybody who would do this to their kid in any degree, to read up on studies that have been conducted and what the repercussions may be.

@ Kenom, I was by no means implying anything against you here. It was in response to bobh comment of the 'non existent'
issue of 'hitting'.
