I agree when I see some spoiled brats... Again this comes down to the effort and time put in to teaching and PARENTING.

I will not get into my past in a public forum, all I know is, I will not raise my hand to my kids in anger. Doing so would only serve to show a lack of care and parenting skill.

Children can be taught discipline without the use of such force.

Hurting a child on purpose is hurting a child on purpose, whether it's a little bit, a lot, or often. Regardless to the degree of force used, it makes no difference.


I would advise anybody who would do this to their kid in any degree, to read up on studies that have been conducted and what the repercussions may be.

@ Kenom, I was by no means implying anything against you here. It was in response to bobh comment of the 'non existent'
issue of 'hitting'.

I could agree that the "Brats" are most likely the ones that missed out
on good parenting...
If one spends the parenting time a child actually needs to not become
a brat then there should.. in theory... be no need to lift a hand...

As to reading studies on child rearing.... I'd rather read Electronic
Data Sheets... My Electronic parts are very well behaved...:crackup::eg:

I'm really bummed to hear about your predicament :(!

I have really benefited from your Lazor know-how over the past 15mths and it sucks knowing you may not be able to spend as much time here for the time being.

I would like to thank you for your contributions, not to mention the fact that I'm a proud owner of a Kenometer *and* a Kryton :bowdown:all of which shows what you are capable of doing!

I had the bright idea of leaving home the day I turned 18 so I've had my share of less-than-stellar moments in life but believe in yourself and you'll be back in the game in no time :)

In the meantime I see that a few members are coming up with ways to support "the good cause" - so you see, you've got your own support group here at LPF :gh:

Please keep us posted no matter what, ok? Fingers crossed for the one & only Kenomeister :beer:

i think the hugest difference is this. some people who discipline their kids physically do it to help them learn right from wrong. many just hit them out of anger or frustration. hitting them cuz you're pissed is wrong. it should be for discipline, not to release your emotions.

it is true that kids don't need physical hits to behave properly.

plus spanking kids only teaches them to fear punishment. it doesn't teach right and wrong or about being moral in principle. "if i can get away with it, it might be worth it" or "no one is looking so i probably won't get caught". that kind of thing.

the number one fault in spanking a kid... what happens when they get too big to hit? how do you punish them then? force them on the streets and push them away? great idea... NOT. by the time i was 12 i was 185 lbs and far stronger than my own father. my dad was kinda strict, but most times very fair. i never got lashes or paddled, but i got hits in my days. by the time i was 12 though, he'd have to blast me in the face to make me feel it. now you might say that "well if i was your father/mother that wouldn't be an issue", but that would only further my point of might makes right... the mightier the person the more power they have, which really fails after awhile.

i don't think hitting is needed to discipline a kid. i will say this though. spanking on the bottom as a kid is acceptable, but like i said it should be a spanking of discipline not a release of anger/frustration on your kid. the never ending vicious cycle of emotional beating will just continue if you release yourself like that.
 
Kind of ironic but I'm a kid magnet. I used to do a lot of baby sitting when I was younger. I've never had to hit a child. I've used scare tactics a couple of times. Kids pay more attention when they think something may be lurking in the shadows LOL. But for the most part if you can get to the kid's level, they will usually follow your lead. Especially when they figure out you can make them more miserable then they could ever make you. :eg:

On the flip side, me being an insane child, those whacks straightened me out. Till they didnt hurt anymore, that is.
 
That's weird.... I used to baby sit when I was about 12 years old
for spending money. I never had a problem with the kids I was
watching. The only problem I had was getting them to go to bed..
They were having too much fun by me playing games with them..

Well you have me there... I wasn't an insane kid....:crackup::crackup:

No dad to keep me straight. I was full throttle by 4. My mom sent me to live with my brother, but he made me worst. :eg:

I dropped the ball today....after 4-5 days of no sleep (or falling asleep sitting in the damned garage) it all caught up to me - I fell asleep standing up in the damned SHOWER - with the water funning cold - scared my wige witless, I can tell you. Been sleeping all day today, hence no call...going back to bed NOW - but hopefully tomorrow I can be awake enough to call and make some sense :)

Kenom from what I have read so far I sounds like it is time for you to make a stand ( Appeal their decision ) and if that does not work then file an appeal with different college and go their, if that does not work then file an appeal with the board of higher ed.

Then next semester before you re-enroll, go to ratemyprofessor.com and then set up a time to interview the ones that interest you, you pay them right, well then they work for you!
They may be wanting to see just how hungry you are for the degree.

In the United states your credit history (credit worthiness) and criminal history is as much a determining factor in hireability as your work history. Made a lot of bad choices in those arenas as well so I really have to work to prove that I'm a valuable employee with a good work ethic...etc blah,blah..

Just select the teacher's that interest you then set up a time to meet them and see if they will work in your best behalf, if they do not seem to care about a student then they are there for just the pay check.
If you look at it like they work for you (Which they do, by you paying tuition that's how they get paid)
You Have the right to choose your teachers.
I have even sat in on several classes to evaluate the teaching style.
You Are Their Boss!
