i hooked up my 6x to a flex drive set at 202ma using rkcstr load 3volt supply.the 6x just glowed for a few minutes.that was all she wrote.hooked drive back to my load it still checked 202ma,so is driver still good and 6x shot. thanks for your time.

If the flexdrive is still putting out 202mA with 3V and the test load, then it is fine. Sounds like the diode is blown.

Peace,
dave

thanks daguin thats what i needed to know.i will use a phr in that dorcy .

got the phr working with the same driver set at 126ma,its not what i wanted, but sometimes you get what you need.WAY TOO OLD.

The very short lifespan (<10Min.) with driver set right, tells me that either the diode was weak or possibly a bad solder connection.
Did you move it around any, before it went out?
If you were moving it, I'd say solder connection.

I am having good luck with my GGW 6x diode. I am running it at 200mA and it has over an hour of use on it. But then again i only leave it on for a couple minutes at a time.

These newer (since ~August) GGWs suck. The majority are weak and wont take anything over 200mA. When setting these I would not go over 190mA. I just toasted one at 199mA in under 30 minutes of use, and it was considered average level, hand picked by IgorT.

We're getting a majority of engineering samples now. Who knows what diode might be in it.

I harvested one a couple of weeks ago that OBVIOUSLY had an old reader diode in it. I harvested it so I know it came from a GGW. However, it had a code number printed on the can! I have seen the code numbers on the cans before, but cannot recall from which old sled they came.

So, are we scraping the bottom of the barrel for GGW sleds now or is it just a temporary thing?

IDK. Only time will tell. I thought that we would have run out of PHR's long ago . . . . . They are HD-DVD sleds for god's sake! At least the GGW drives are still floating around. LOL!

Peace,
dave
