I need a new soldering gun tip for my soldering gun. I know they're pretty cheap and I should just buy one but I have the machinery To make my own. I have made a couple brass tips and They work okay but they don't work as good as the original one. So what are they made out of and what would be the best material to use? I may be able to make some for the forum members as well.

Soldering iron tips are, presumably, made of iron, no?

I'm not sure that's why I'm asking you guys. I know it's made of a metal but I'm kind of thinking that it's got some type of coating over top of it almost like a chrome or nickel plating but I could be wrong.

It is solid copper with an iron plating. We all know what the copper is for. The iron plating is to prolong the tip life by preventing the flux and oxidation from eating away the copper core.

Well that sucks, guess I'll just have to buy one because I'm not going to be able to do the plating. :cryyy:
