So i recived my m140 diode last friday and my sister thought it was a ring in bubblewrapper so she threw it across my room in to the wall (about 5m away).

I tried out the laser later but it didnt work, optics look fine same with housing etc.

Is there anyway to fix the laser?

Otherwise im going to buy a 808nm ir 500mW laser and put in that host, do i need a new lens or does the one that is in work? (M140 with Three element glass lens)

What do you mean by "didn't work"?

No light at all? Bad beam shape? Very dim?

No light from what i could see, there was voltage (around 2.25V)all the way to the wires from the laser. Home built LM317T driver.
Couldent see any dot through my 2x Ebay goggles or single one.

Can i Ohm measure the diode without damaging it?

2.25V is not enough to get the diode past the lasing threshold. Are you using a constant current driver?

Your sister thought it was a ring and threw it across the room. Sounds like she has commitment issues. I think she owes you a new diode. How about sweet new 1.4W NDB7576
 
The diode is good protected in a bubblewrapper. It survives easily a fall of 5 meter.
Have you a picture of the set up ? It could be many things that could go wrong.
 
Did you test the driver on a test load? This should always be done to make sure it's operating properly.

What type of batteries are you using? What's the set up?

9V battery. Lm317T 1 ohm resistor tried with 3,3 ohm at first.


The diode is good protected in a bubblewrapper. It survives easily a fall of 5 meter.
Have you a picture of the set up ? It could be many things that could go wrong.

It smashed into the wall, must have hit the Lens or something, ill get a picture soon.

It was a potentiometer where the cables are twisted earlier, thoght the potentiometer was the problem.

The 1 ohm resistor is rated at 2w and the potentiometer was a 2,2 ohm 3w.

My teacher in electronics told me to bring the diode and that he could check on it, they have got CC power supplyes on my school. Do i crank the volts to the max and slowly increse the Amps?

Shipping is probebly too expensive dont think its worth it. Thanks for the offer tho :)

I took the Numbers from a video i saw on youtube (m140 driver) he said a resistor ranging from 1-1,5 ohm was good.

correct.... set volts to max, and have current off. then slowly ramp up current knob. you will see current and volt values rise

The VR (lm317t) maybe broke instantly then, its only rated for 1.5A and it was wired for (1.8A?). It cost less than 1 dollar so i was a bit worried, if the laser works in a CC power supply should i change the VR to a LM317HVT which is around 5 dollar insted?

Why are IR laser goggles so expensive? :O

1ohm resistor = 1.25A
A single 9V battery cannot supply that amount of current IIRC, the internal resistance would be too high. Your problem is likely your voltage source.

Remember to short the leads with the PSU turned off before connecting the diode.

Dafuq? Am I missing something? OP is using an LM317 as a current regulator, so the reference voltage would be 1.25V then. If you're trying to calculate the lowest resistor value you can use you're doing it wrong.

V = 1.25V
I = ?
R = 1ohm

I = V/R = 1.25V/1ohm = 1.25A

I don't see anything wrong with his setup.
