Jerry, don't waste you're time. You're on my ignore list.

@Grainde , I think it's PLA at the moment, but I'll double check.

Great job putting it together, ped. I'm sure you will figure out what's wrong with the Y axis. + Rep. :yh:

Did I offend you in some way by answering your

I think Grainde suggested that because of the smell/fumes that comes from printing ABS. I don't see any major differences between the two plastics for my applications so I just use PLA. Nicely done on the build. :yh:

What happened between you and Jerry?

ABS doesnt cope well with drafts or cold air disturbances. Unlike PLA, ABS will begin to curl up at the edges and detach from the bed. This means drafts will mess up the print. PLA is no problem you could print that out doors ;) Bed settings I use for ABS and PLA are 102 °C and 80 °C respectively. PLA doesnt need to be that high but I prefer it.

WRT printing make sure you print in a ventilated area although PLA is corn starch based, I got a minor allergy to it printing in the front room. It gave me a weird cough and completely blocked sinuses. As soon as I put it in the garage it cleared up. ABS needs to be printed were there is ventilation due to the fumes which are toxic, although the amount will depend on the extruder temp. - You see the problem here, you need ventilation without disturbing the print! ;)

FYI I use around 230 °C for ABS and 210 - 217 °C for PLA - the latter for the advanced PLAs.

Edit : Forgot to mention, ABS is much stronger, although admittedly the advanced PLAs arent bad. ABS also handles heat better - higher glass transition temp. Think angry birds egg cup I printed for my son...:) PLA will begin to soften around 60 °C. ABS is also more flexible, so it wont break as easily. Think how indestructible Lego bricks are! I also printed some fantastic carabiners that easily hold 40 kgs from thethingverse and printed those in ABS.

What happened between you and Jerry?

Because of his anti-competitive behaviour towards two very well respected members (Trevor & Arg) a few years ago.
He was proven wrong and dissapeared off the forum.

I don't want to get back into that, I'll leave some links below to allow people to make their own minds up.

/on topic

The printer seems to have a fault.

All the axis' will move one way, but not the other.
IE the nozzle will move left, but not right...the bed will move backwards but not forwards ect.

I clicked on "disable steppers" in the menu and that seemed to cure it, but after a short while it goes back to that condition, and now clicking on it makes no difference.

You can hear the steppers click when asked to move, but they stay still.

Any ideas?

I see you still have a Laser pointer up your butt
from over 3 years ago....
I left all the "Non-Stop Neg Repping for months by
those same members including yourself" behind me
and moved on....

I suggest you grow up and do the same...

Someone on YT suggests calibrating the extruder, I'll do that as soon as I get home from work.

Thank you Wdz.

I think the bed is fine, it's not extruding properly.

Precisely Ped, the bed has to do with it and how! in practice you have to almost touch the printing nozzle to the printing bed! and once I do this, you must with a piece of paper, insert it under the press and the extruder, doing so that gives a slight tear .... if there is too much gap between them the printing starts badly! and it must be corrected using the wheels placed under the 4 corners of the plane
