Ebay 3500 Lumens HID Flashlight

So I bought this sucker just to experience the brightest flashlight I could afford. It is way brighter than all my other lights. I have a 1200lm ultrafire which is the closest but this one puts out more light. The spot is kind of crappy looking compared to LED spots but this is only noticable against a flat wall so who cares really. I paid $189. it came with an extra bulb, case, battery pack, yellow fog lens, and chargers for car and house. Overall I am pleased with this light although I will always have the thirst for more power.

That is a cool host.
I have just been looking through auto supply stores for hid.
They charge quite a lot for the bulbs plus starter-ballast, and the starter/ballast is way too bulky to fit in a flash light.

My professional experience with this is the sodium HP 400W marine floodlights with a really bulky stater and reactive ballast.

(Is it possible to open and see the driver, without wrecking anything)

I do not know if this light uses a driver or not. I will check into it.

I thought HID used the light generated from a high voltage arc inside the bulb,
if thats the case there must be some sort of high voltage inverter in there.

It does, and there is.
CandlePowerForum have quite a lot on these.
Just be careful flash lights are addictive.

wow that this really is a beast. how long does the battery last between recharges?

That thing is big enough to fit 4x A140 diodes , pushing those at 2w each could potentially give you an 8w portable laser .

Of course you would still have to merge the 4 beams and who knows if the battery used currently could handle that kind of draw and for how long lol, but wouldn't that be a beast .
