Today while working in the ER, we had a woman come in who had gotten "attacked" with a laser.
She had been having disputes with her neighbor, and while pulling out of her driveway was flashed with a "blue" light by her neighbor.

Her retina appeared undamaged and the "blindness" which she reported was gone about 45 minutes after the incident.
However, the numbing drops that we put in her eyes didn't seem to help which suggests the pain was coming from "inside" they eye (as would be expected with a laser injury)

The police officers returned with a crappy ~20 lumen LED light as the "weapon"
However, I highly suspect the piece of shit perpetrator simply stashed his laser and gave the officer this flashlight instead.

!@34ING A-hole.... I hope this jackass gets a wakeup call. Anyway it sounds like a laser for the simple fact of low WL lasers causing eye pain from strain. My 50mw blu-ray did that to me from reflections even when i had it defocused to a huge dot. I just went crazy the first time using it and I wasn't used to it. It could just be eye strain and cone overload....hopefully. I'd hate to see someone be a victim of this.

Even if I have a laser in my pocket while I'm driving, and someone flashes me with their high beams or cuts me off, no matter how much I'd like to flash them with it, I never would because I have something called morals.

This is a bit ridiculous... who possibly damages someone's eyesight because of an argument?

...

I suppose that statement above is ridiculous. What nation HASN'T cost the lives of thousands of young men to settle their arguments?

Not America. We're a peaceful nation who avoids conflict at all costs :D

If I were the victim, I would have been infuriated by the police's inability to distinguish flashlight from laser. Now the assailant probably still has the laser and will possibly do it again.

Unless it actually wasn't a laser, in which she should feel silly for going to the ER for being flashed with a flashlight, and not knowing the difference.:yabbem:

Normally, I'd wager the perp just swapped out the laser for the torch, but I'm inclined to think the lady really doesn't know the difference. Seems as time goes on the general populace gets more and more ignorant.

she said it was a bright blue light.

The led light the cops brought in was one of those crappy crank flashlights with cheap leds, was also white light
this described this as BLUE.
whatever it was, it was blue, bright, and caused her to go blind for ~45 minutes in her left eye

the nurses in the er were blaming me, cause i sell laser parts

It sounds like a laser to me as well. There were just some people commenting she might be stupid apparently so I wanted to clear that up.

Oh wow, it was a crank LED light? Yeah, you're probably right about it being a laser then, I doubt you could blind someone with a crank up LED light... unless they were maybe paralysed.

I didn't think 445's were popular enough to get into the hands of idiots though, maybe a 405?

i asked her if it was blue or purplish, she was dead set on bright blue
she got sent home with some eye drops and a follow up appnt with optometrist

Really? You say this knowing that WL exists, among all the people showing their friends YouTube videos and all the cheap Chinese sites and everything. Don't underestimate the internet lol.
