What's the maximum power of the a laser pointer?






I am just talking about the handheld style lasers, not the laser machine or something.

I found this laser from a France store: Pointeur laser 10000mW bleu le plus puissant du monde

The 6500mW is the maximum power? (I have translated this page). I really need a super powerful laser, but I don't care the quality or brand.

Never seen that store before, can't comment on the veracity of their claims. Could be a rip off.

You can get more power in a handheld by combining two diodes in a custom build... but the maximum for a single diode is a little over 7W. There are other ways to get more ... they are all custom and things get more complicated as power goes up.

Why do you need a "super powerful laser"?
 
That site looks kinda scammy. Why do they have up JETLASERS pics and stuff when they're obviously not JETLASERS? Caveat emptor...

I'd recommend you just buy from a known quality site such as Jetlasers or Sanwu.

First you will need a pair of safety glasses thats a must. Are you aware of how to operate a laser of that magnitude salt and properly? And it would be really nice if we all know were your from in your avatar . The higher power laser you can get in a hand held is 7000+ MW'S as Diachi stated in his post. You have to be carful of were you point it . at any aircraft will get you a fine and jail tine you will get to wear some nice chrome bracelets to one size fits all. Here is an example of a 7+ W laser.

Looks real scammy, their last pic even has the Jetlasers name on it; it may be the same J/L host, but probably not all the same components.
Like Razako said, stick with a known, high quality company, if you like the style of the lasers on that site, go to the Jetlasers site for the real deal.

Yea really, it's even got the JL watermark on one of the shots.

Clearly it's not their own product or they're ripping someone off either way, I'd say if you're interested then you should buy from JetLasers themselves. At least that way you'll know it's reliable and you're getting a high quality laser. (edit: yep, exactly like BowtieGuy said, beat me to it!)

Also be careful, it doesn't look like they accept PayPal, if you get scammed you'll have to deal with your CC company.

I was able to translate the entire page and they admit it is a Jetlaser patented product that only outputs 6500 mW of optical power. However they are asking 400 Euros for it and that seems outrageous. That host is not what I would use for a NUBM44 laser diode. Not nearly enough heat sinking. Nothing especially innovative about this pointer, either.
 
For a single diode your limited to 7 maybe 8 watts.

However, potential exists to combine up to 4 of the 7-8 watt NUBM44s into one beam (no knife edging).


Here is a possible array that uses off the shelf components. It is to scale.

It would fit in a D cell maglite if you used 8 of the lithium 14500s (2 for each diode)

I don't understand what you are trying to do here. These aren't dichros as the don't make any that reflect and pass the same WL. So, how does this work? Seems like knife edging is the ONLY way to do this. You couldn't PBS cube it with four diodes either.

NUBM44s vary in spectrum just enough (you need to test and sort them) for this dichro to work to combine beams.

Dichroic Filter "Blue/Blue"

The bandwiths that this dichro reflects/passes is even narrower than advertised. I have retained 90% power on 2 beams that were only different by 5nm.



I have a few projects to finish (and hone skills on) before I attempt to build a "25 Watt" Maglite Saber.

The narrowest bandwidth advertised by this supplier is 17nm. I don't see you a being able to find 4 NUBM44 diodes that are this far apart. Even if you did, it would only combine two diodes.
 
Unless you PBS combine two pairs of NUBM44s then combine with the dichro.
 
You would need to find two pairs of diodes that matched and were over 17nm apart, THEN try to combine via a PBS cube, which I'm not even sure is possible with these two combined beams. I think the 25 watt laser exists more in your desires than in reality.
