As the title says, I need 5 Ca$!0 projectors,,, yes, with the diode arrays. 130's or 140's new or slightly used. I can paypal the funds. If anyone has 5 to sell or knows a good source for cheap units, let me know.

Yeah, I messed up on my original post. Can't seem to edit the title for some reason so if a moderator could change it to read "Ca$!0", that would be great.

I only have M140 projectors and they are not exactly what you are probably thinking of when you say cheap.:o

Thanks for your PM. Looks like Dave got it for me. Thanks Dave! ;)

Anyway, Best price I found so far is $725. I was quoted $650 a while back so I'm looking to get as close to that number as possible.

Do the A230's have the same diode arrays in them as the 140's?

iirc they have lower binned diodes ( less efficiency)

A130 and the A140 have all been discontinued.

A230 are Lower Efficient. In fact I hate them. They are all average diodes if not a little bellow. Not worth it.!

The M140 are you next best option. They also seem to be very efficient.;)

The array in the A230 are the Same as the A-140. But again not worth the money.IMO

I hate the fact that most people around here are spoiled to the point that they now have the mentality that 'if it won't do over 2W.. it's garbage'.

I'll actually give $20 to anyone who can tell the difference between 1.8W and 2W by using the mk1 eyeball alone in a blind test (no pun intended) considering apparent brightness doesn't increase linearly with power.

And i'll also be more than happy to give all these 'crappy inefficient 445nm diodes' a good home should you wish to throw them away..

So I get $20 if I guess right. Do I loose $20 if I guess wrong? Sounds like a no loose scenario.:evil:


I will certainly agree with you on not being able to tell the difference by eyeballing it. Blindly bright is blindly bright. Plus the lower efficiency ones run hotter which could possibly actually make them look brighter as the wavelength increases.:tinfoil: Then you get into the something like 4X power to get 2X visual brightness increase. IE 4W being twice as bright as 1W.

But one advantage of a more efficient diode is since they produce less heat @ identical currents than less efficient diodes you can sustain a longer duty cycle and more stable output.:beer:

Hmmm.I dont see where i mentioned anything about anything less then 2W being Garbage in my post.:undecided:

I just stated that they are not worth the money. In my Experience most would only do 1.5W at 1.8A and 900mW-1W at 1.2A. Which IMO are low efficient. Not that i would throw them out or not use then i just use them in lower power build back then.

Is it worth spending $100 less for 24 inefficient diodes in my experience with getting A230 diodes or when you can spend $100 more and get pretty good efficient diodes from the A140. My Money says spend the little extra.

It has nothing to do with being spoiled it has to do with common sense. What is a better buy. If you want to waste your money on most diodes out of the A230 projector being inefficient diodes then go ahead. But i wont recommend them.:beer:

If you guess wrong you owe me $100. :D

And that logic only holds up if people are running them at lower powers. Which the people asking for really efficient diodes aren't going to be doing.. They're going to pushing them for all they're worth for the bragging rights

If you give two of these diodes the same amount of current, the differences in waste heat output between the 'efficient' and 'non-efficient' one is going to be negligible unless you have some pretty sensitive measurement equipment, since your talking about a 100-200mW difference in thermal output between them.. When it's putting out 6W(or more) of waste heat already.. your not going notice .2W more or less...

But like was brought up in the last post you could have one doing 1.5W @ 1.8A and I have seen these and they heat up tremendously. Now compare that to one doing 2.3W @ 1.8A that is an 800mW swing.;)
