Stripping a benq dw1620

Hi everyone, I'm trying to craft a laser pointer for the first time, so yeah, I'm a total newby of the field, so be nice please :).
I'm stripping down an old benq dw1620 dvd-burner and now that I reached the core I cannot go any furter because I'm not capable of unmounting the diodes (which I suppose are the ones circled in white).

I also previously removed this diod (?)

from the red circled casing and this thing

that was on the back of the complex.

Could you please tell me how to proceed now?


Also I got a very old crappy laser pointer that I thought could have been used for circuits and diod's case. Do you think it could be useful in some way?

Update: I removed the circled diodes
From what I understood reading tutorial it seems to me that the left one is a IR diode and the right one is the diode I'll have to use to craft the pointer, I'm I right? The back connector are all covered in melted tin.

It is hard to tell, because I can't see the AR tint on the windows. I don't know this sled either.
 
I think so yes. there is a thread here somewhere the lists a couple of methods. search for it, but if you can't find it i'll see if I can dig it up for you. I'm being lazy today, but i'm glad to help where I can
 
The color of the AR won't tell you much since the wavelengths are relatively close to each other.

The best way to test them IMO is just to fire them up at low current.

Build a quick LM317 current regulator, and throw ~75mA into each of them, and that should tell you right away which is which.
 
err, seriously, total noob here

Here is a photo of the component I recovered, two diods, a circuit that could be used as driver, a concave/convex lens and a lens complex which maybe could be of some use.

You are either colorblind or have not disassembled a lot of sleds :) (No offense)

Yes you can tell them apart simply by looking at the little window.
IR diode's reflection of that window is slightly greenish tint, and red's reflection is very nice blue color.

If there is no window, then that's IR diode too.

Right diod's window is clearly blue, thanks for the info.

Minor correction to your english , it's "diode" not "diod" OK?
Diode's window, multiple diodes, laser *diode*.

Next, you should know that the circuit from little pointer you've got is not usable for red diode. There is no current regulation circuitry there.

You need to buy or build your own driver. I suggest building, since it's most fun :)

If you need any help, look around in "Drivers" section of this forum. Or ask me over PM.

Sorry, I'm not native speaker.
Btw yeah, I lurked around in the forum about drivers, maybe I'll try to build it but I'm really new with all this electronic stuff, really not my field, gotta search for a soldering iron somewhere.
