Scanner Housing?

Does anyone have, or know where to get a fairly big metal box I can use to mount the parts of my laser scanner in? I currently have it in rather small plastic housing (10"l x 7.5"w x 3.5"h) but now I need to add more lasers... its not possible. I need a metal box thats around 15 inch length, 9.5 inch width and 4 inches height.

Is anyone selling something like this? Or know where exactly I can get something like it? I don't really want it to look horrible, I want it to look like it was originally made like it.

Hmm, looks perfect!

Have maplin gone mad with their measurements though? That looks big enough to fit two lasers in there including the parts I have and still have space left. Yet if I measure out their largest one in their specs thats not much bigger than what I have now which will just about fit 1 laser in there.

only one thing with it, you need an aluminium base, cos the hosuing flexis

Hmm ok, so you have the large one on maplins site? and perhaps if I cut the side out of some old PC housing I have lying around I can put that in the bottom.
 
i did use, not anymore.

you can get aluminium sheets off ebay cheap, they will do the job and act as a heat sink

the only reason i know these things, is cos i have made two scanners now. soon you will be advising people on building scanners

Well after this one is done and its a fully working RGY then I probably wont be making any more, I will buy ready built ones. Might try my hand at a bluray pointer though.

Cheaper to build a pointer yes, building a scanner no!

Its cost me over £150 to build my scanner and its no where near done yet.
 
it is cheaper to build a scanner than buy.

alot of the 500mw scanners only have 15 or 20k scanners in them and thee about £2000

im up to £2000 on mine now :'(
