Real question about burning!

I have a medical marijuana card becaues I live in USA Ca. I like to smoke using a lens and the sun!!! It's legal here!

Now here is my question!
Can I burn marijuana in a thin clear glass pipe? If I shot the beam through the bowel? I am getting a 250mw red pointer. It works amazing with the sun!

I know all about the dangers of owning a laser and I know about reflection and refraction dangers!

But if I focus it on a bowel, it should smoke the herb like it does all other dark junk? Right?

I think I just invented the laser vap.
 





SOME people here often smoke cigars and cigarettes with their lasers, so I don't see why any other simple organic substance wouldn't burn as well.

But I think my question is can it burn it threw the glass? If I got a super thin glass pipe would it go threw it and make the herb smoke? Or would the glass reflect/refract too much of the light to burn? It's only 250 mw 650red.

If this works I can't belive nobody tryed it and bulit a laservap!

Properly focused with clean glass it should work.

I don't think a 250mw red is going to be strong enough after watching that video with a 1w.

Through glass the aperture is not exposed to the smoke and ash debris..

It seems like if you kept it at an angle like in the video you shouldn't have a problem, I am not saying your wrong, if you were using a 250mw red you would have to have it close and then you are definatly right you would have a problem. :beer:
 
Yea!!! Good find, thanks for the info! And this is only my first laser.... Test laser if you will. I want a 1w laser by Jan! My burthday!

You should get some goggles too, because the glass might reflect, and since the lasers don't really burn that well compared to a magnifying glass and the sun, you'll have to train that thing on the target for a while before it starts to burn (it's hard to aim without goggles). Not sure what wavelength would be good too. Maybe 405nm (violet) would be better for absorption than red.

Whenever I saw someone try lighting up that... er... tobacco with a laser, the safety concerns made it too much of a pain, and the person went back to just using a lighter. That was a pipe though, so it would've been really close to that person's face. A tabletop bon--water pipe--might work better.
 
I have started lighting cigarettes with a 1.2W and goggles.

Your idea have two major problems.
The 250mW effect may not be enough to create smoke in a pace that suits you.
The reflections from the glass will be all over the room unless you make a fixed* setup, so you will have the provide goggles for everyone present.

*As in bolt the glass and laser down and block the reflections with something.

I recommend you stick to the magnifying glass.
 
Lighting cigarettes is semi-doable with 250 mW, but it takes quite some time to light even a single one. With the 1 watt lasers its very easy to do, and i've done it as a demonstration numerous times (wearing goggles obviously).

I think it would be very unpractical to use it with a bong though, since you would only heat a small portion of the pot. Its not likely to sustain flame (or at least not desireable), so you'd have to move the laser around etc.

Just get a sheesha, much more convenient... or roll a joint and light that with your laser :D
 
Ok, so I have most of the parts. I just need to assemble them. It's a glass test tube with a glass tube connected to a hose. The test tube is going into a Woden box with a removable top. I want to put the laser on the lid of the box about half of an inch above the test tube. So the laser shoots down into the test tube laying down. So it's inclosed in a box and won't be in your sight! It will me focused ahead and be able to heat up the herb in the tube!!!

I have a question

If I put a mirror under the weed will the laser bounce back and hit it more? Also can I reflect the beam into the laser anywhere where it will damage it? Ex: if it's above a mirror can it bounce back and damage the laser?
 
You have all of these dangerous things and you smoke weed?:undecided:
I'd hate to come over your house for fear of getting killed by some random flying nails:scared:
