Question regarding Flexdrive v5

Greetings Lpf ,

I have a quick question towards the flexdrive v5 . Well basically i have all parts needed ready to make my 1st Build . I layed out all parts on my table & decided to align the laser diode pins on the flexdrive ( not soldered yet ) & noticed the holes on the flexdrive are kinda spaced out therefore i have no idea on how can i solder the pins onto it evenly . Is there a solution to this :thinking: ? . Thanks in advance .

ya but be very careful... i did my first laser yesterday and it was a complete mess.. lol im ordering a new diode.. (blew mine) and a new flex drive.. (think i fried it) 1 problem i had was keeping the wire soldered to the drive.. everytime i moved it it seemed the wires would come unsoldered.. i am bad at soldering tho.. :/ besides that make sure b4 hooking up the flexdrive to ur diode u run a test load on it.

Using just a tiny little bit of flux 'dabbed' onto the connections, will make a huge difference.

I like to put the wires in the holes first, and bend them over. Then put a bit of flux on the spot.

If you have a fine tipped iron, get it just hot enough to easily melt the solder and pre-load some solder on a 'clean' tip.

Then touch your pre-cleaned, pre-loaded tip to the wired, fluxed, connection point on the driver and it should take the solder very nicely as you heat both the driver connection point and the wire simultaneously. Clean you tip if needed, re-load, and do the next spot.

Then inspect with a magnifying glass if necessary. And clip any unneeded 'bent over' wire...

Also, make sure you're not trying to solder the laser diode pins to the input side of the flexdrive. Those holes are spaced farther apart than the ouput side.
 
Yeah the holes are spaced father aparts than the pins on the diode....

if your wanting to mount the doide directly to the flex drive your gonna have to bend the pins.

It also helps to postiton the flex drive so that the - hole sit inbetween the neg, and not used pins, this will make it case-negative AND give it much more stability and decrease the chances of ripping off the diode pins should it encounter any kind of force.
