PHR-803t Dorcy Driver Clarification

First off, I hear that the Dorcy Jr. has an LED driver built in, that outputs about ~5VDC. That's fine for me since I'm using a flexdrive v4, but will the Dorcy's original LED driver supply enough current if I set my flexdrive for ~115mA? Can I run the flexdrive @115mA off the Dorcy's driver circuit?

Second, about dummy loads, everything I've searched for on the forum about them, is pretty inconsistent concerning the PHR803t diode. If I were to make a dummy load, would it consist of 4 series diodes and 1ohm resistor across them in parallel? Or is it 6 diodes?

Third, I'm aware that there is a capacitor that needs to be shorted after testing. But the flexdrive v4 components are so tiny, and I'm not too sure about which of the components on the board is the output cap. Would anyone care to point this little guy out for me?

Yeah hey buddy, It is indeed 6 1n4001 diodes with a 1 ohm resistor for a phr-803t bluray. refer to your manual for the resistor shorting, it has a nice detailed diagram on the back, or check here, http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/MicroFlexDrive User Manual.pdf . On the driver to dorcy driver refer to the blu ray dorcy build here on the forums, http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1214285108 it has lots of good pictures to help you.

Ah thank you! You just nailed the first and second one on the top of the head for me! But about that cap to short out... I didn't find anything in that user manual. I want to be sure that what I'm shorting will indeed protect my diode from those notorious lingering charges. Another thing... I'm debating about what gauge of solid copper wire to use... would 20 gauge fit those flexdrive holes? Or is 22 gauge required?

Ok, best way is to remove the Dorcy driver, it has been known to cause issues. XCreedX covered test loads. A resistor placed across the output of the LavaDrive is fine for discharging the capacitors. If you are a bit paranoid, do the same to the input side first.
