My green 50mW o-like recently died, I may have accidentaly hooked it up backwards and blown the driver , the diode appears to be a 5.6mm open can, could I replace it with a closed can 808nm in the 1000mw range?
Set in a 2" aluminum block, maybe with a small tec, does anybody know what power the crystals can be pumped with safely before you run the risk of frying them?
Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I wouldn't hit those crystals with much more than 500-750mW. You might be able to use 1W of 808, but the real issue is the coating on the crystals. It might not stand up to that much pump power.

try it anyway! if it burns (like releasing the magical smoke) you didnt lose too much money, and can easily get other crystals again. but it will be a great project in any case!
with that much IR in an open setup with reflective surfaces, IR protective googles is absolutely must!
