Was checking the eBay laser scene(just for sh*ts and grins), ans saw a link to http://www.nitroxlasers.com/shop/index.php in the ads. Let me say there isn't much on this planet that could force me to buy DIY a those prices.

Anyone know what the story is behind the site? My apologies to the owner if they read this but wow..........

350mW Dorcy? There is no way they are getting 350mW from an open can with any Aixiz lens unless that diode is severely overdriven. Even if it is 350mW, that thing doesn't have near a proper heatsink. The prices aren't very good IMO either.
 
true. they sell the same items I do (except for that open can) at nearly double the price  :o
 
do blu rays really appear 10x the brightness of an even red?
I thought they were dimmer :

Nah, blu-ray should be dimmer. My 15mW blu-ray isn't as bright as an el-cheapo red pointer I have.

I checked out another unit being sold by him for someone. He was selling it as a 240mW laser. In the "fine print" it stated that the laser was capable of 240 mW ""pulsed"". Since we are using them in CW that cuts the output in half. I corresponded with him about a ""350mW"" diode he was selling. He answered that 350mW was POSSIBLE with TEC cooling. Now mind you, he had never driven one up to 350mW, nor had he seen one driven up to 350mW. He READ SOMEWHERE that 350mW was possible, so that's what he listed it at. Add on top of what I consider to be this deceptive tactic the extremely high prices and you've go a SCAM in my opinion.

He was planning on sending me a review unit but apparently that's never going to happen. We had a long conversation about false advertisement in that the lasers were capable of 350mw in pulsed. Since he's not running his lasers at pulsed I kinda suggested that he change that wording. Obviously my words of advice went unheeded. He claims to have sold some of his lasers so I honestly don't know what to think of him other than his prices are a bit high, and his lasers are misrepresented.

Our burning laser pointers are sensitive electronic devices, and, therefore, all necessary precautions must be taken during their use. The following is the proper method of activating and using Nitrox Lasers' burning laser pointers:

1. Turn the upper portion of the laser pointer counter-clockwise by about 1/4" to activate the laser.
2. Shine the laser on a nearby non-reflective surface (such as a wall) to make sure that it works. At this point, the beam may be quite large in diameter. That's OK for now. Proceed to step 3.
3. Point the laser at an object that you wish to melt and/or light. The object usually must be dark in color (blue, purple, dark green, black, etc.), and preferably not red (as the beam is red). For this example, we will use a piece of black vinyl electrical tape, slightly stretched over the sides of its reel.
4. Carefully turn the small knob at the top of the laser to adjust the beam diameter to the perfect size. When well-focused, the beam should be no more than 1.5mm in diameter, and should be very bright to the naked eye, even when pointed at a dark object.
5. Move the laser beam across the object you wish to burn. This may take some patience at first, as you may need to move your hand up and down, closer to, then farther away from, the object, to achieve the perfect beam focus.


#5 sounds more like something more private than adjusting focus of a laser.

I just purchased a 350mw "pulsed" laser from nitrox lasers, and Even though i have not recieved my laser yet, Justin, the owner, has wonderful costumer service. HE even installed two saftey switches for free. Plus, he set me up with a driver, a 350mw diode in axsis module, lithium 3.6 volt batteries, and priority mail shipping for under 135 dollars
(thats all soldered together)
SWhen I recieve my laser, I will post a new reply.
so dont go blasting a company you havent even bought from.

A PREVIEW doesn't carry near as much meaning as a REVIEW....

Not to mention, the overuse, of some grammar, tools, such as, commas.
 
I am not defending, its just alot of people make assumptions, and it seems to me, that for someone that is bad at soldering, and has not the time or money to go about finding an old dvd burner, his prices are reasonable. esp with all the coupons
anyways, i am not saying his lasers are good, im just looking at it with an open mind.
 
Not trying to "knock ya down" or offend you by any means...... but comments for or against a company/manufacturer/builder should only be made after your transaction is final and you have had ample time to "test drive" the product.  Your review should be based upon your experience, not your opinion.   ;)

Edit: I am not saying anything bad towards Nitrox Lasers either.... i have not purchased from them, so i know nothing about their products.
 
which is why isad i would reply back with the review after i recieve the product. i just dont understand why a lot of ppl dislike nitrox lasers.
