I've always had an interest in lasers but my time was always taken up by my other hobbies of guns and cars. But I saw Kipkay's video hacking the Star Trek phaser (I know, very late to the party) and decided I should look into this deeper.
I checked out Jayrob's build and got very excited to try one, if not both, out for myself. I've never worked with any kind of laser before but I work on my car all the time and I'm hoping that helps some. I also think with the help of the people here, I'll be successful.
