I machined the heatsink for my first 6X build but didnt use it. I also didnt have Dr. Lava's most excellent driver which I had the pleasure of assembling for this build. Im running it with a 3.6 ultrafire set to a conservative 95ma and have not tested the beam as of yet (too busy playing with it). The housing is the Rominsen flashlight style green with a tail clicky, which fit all the parts like a glove. Total assembly time was approx 15 min, as the extra space left by the no longer needed second battery made it a snap :)

Here are some pics of the build and the beam...

This shot was taken on a clear night with no fog at a distance of 3 blocks from the Penthouse (25th floor) Reflecting off a speed limit sign.

Heh, I like the pic with it reflecting off the sign :) That'd freak out a few drivers for sure ;)

Do you have a way to measure output?

Not necesarily. It's only that bright from your angle. :P

Good work! Was it difficult to assemble the lavadrive? How many cells are you running it off of?

I would imagine its quite visible, I say this because there was a guy taking out his garbage who was quite mesmorized by it :) Yes you get the reflection back, but there is also the angle to which it will follow. Besides it not something I would do with any traffic passing by ;)

***added***

For the battry im using a single 3.6v lith and for the optics a dx glass but am changing it out. Once I am done with the little details ill be testing it with a LaserCheck, and then try to figure out its ACTUAL output >:(

Took a couple of more pics lastnight, this is into a clear night sky. You can see a single star off to the right as a bit of reference.

wannaburn, what lens are you using? who makes it. and in what housing. i know you made the custom heat sink, did that include the lens chamber as well?

Its all Rominsen 30 parts except for the heatsink and the lens. The lens is from (if I remember correctly) the dx 70mw red labby (glass). Whatever I buy form DX does not stay in one piece for very long, I buy their stuff for certain parts that I like to use and practice with the rest.
