My 20mW Laser BURNS!!!!!!

Only electrical tape,and the tape has to be literally touching the very top of laser,but it can cut across in about 15 or 20 seconds,this is my laser

EDIT:I might be making a video if you guys want me to.

The label does not mean much...  :-?
Warning labels usually state "<XX mW"  which means Less Than XX mW... ::)

Only with a Laser Power Meter could you really know the actual output of your laser... ;)
 
I have a leadlight here with a label on it that says <1mW.

Does that mean that it is OK to shine the 95mW of 405nm light in my eyes ;D :D :P ;)

No for heaven's sake Dave....  ::) That is foolish as you know... ;D  [smiley=tongue.gif] ;D

I was trying to point out that the actual output of your laser may be Lower or Higher than the label
(even though it may not have been clear in the last post) ::)
states and the only sure way of knowing your Laser's actual output is with a Laser Power Meter... ;)

It may be the IR light that is doing most of the cutting. Do they really have IR filters? :-?

I'd agree with this. While there's a good chance that you got lucky and got an overpowered pointer, it's more likely that either these lasers don't come with an IR filter, or somehow it was left out by accident.

I know WL QC isn't that good, but I'll be willing to bet it still has an IR filter.

My question is:
Is it a fusion this person got or a different model that looks similar (like the classic or advanced)?

Edit: By the way, if you burn something too close to the aperture of the laser, you may get residue from whatever it is you're burning on the lens or IR filter (whichever is exposed) and it will cause the dot to be speckly and... not clean. Be careful. Cleaning lenses is a pain in the ass.

Are you sure it's 15-20 sec? I mean, time goes so fast when you're burning, you better watch out!  :P And RA_pierce is correct, you can easily dirty your lens by burning stuff that close, when burning a min of 2" should be ok, more if it's combustible!  

Anyway, sk8r41, you do know the concept of DPSS right?  Because RARLY to never do they come what they claim to be in mW.  I've heard lots of stories about underspec units from WL, but, when your talking 20mW it would sure be a shame there!  That's why good laser companies sell anything significantly over in mW what they claim because the output is also hardly constant.  You could have 40mW one second, and 10 mW in the next, deepening on a few variables, temperature being the largest.  Anyway, your unit is probably producing ~35mW with fully charged batteries and at point blank it produces just enough heat to burn black tape.  You should try it with a magnifying glass.
