Laser Spark plugs

I had that thought years ago. Finally, someone has attempted my idea.

It is a good idea, but what optical window could cope with the high temps, shockwave, carbon deposits, dust, metal particles and other crap inside a cylinder of an operating engine long enough to seriously drive anywhere?

The idea is great. But even with, from what I gather in the article, the die being ceramic, and improved burning, 400 miles and the lens is coated in exhaust. Unless there is a way to use titanium doped glass, but the self cleaning properties still aren't that good.

Either way I support it, think about it, $20 is reasonable for such ''effecient'' and reasonable for the consumer public. if these high power lasers are available, us diy-ers could use some new cheap high power stuff.

Plus these diodes will surely cause high power co2 prices to DROP. These can replace more than just spark plugs if said 10 GW/cm is possible.

I think they could work with improvements to the engine, ie a hydrogen powered setup or maybe even pure ethanol... it is all about burning the fuel 100% to co2 and h2o, hydrocarbons are just bad due to the amount of thiol groups present and other elemental impurities. Maybe instead of mounting them internally in the engine they could heat the combustion chamber externally with pulsed lasers, that + the pressure of the piston should combust diesel nicely... maybe lol? And it would allow the lasers to remain "safe" from gases.
Any thoughts?

Bump!
