Hi everyone. First thread since I posted being a noob in the welcome forum. I'm sure it's been discussed before, and if you could show me, I'd appreciate it, but I searched and didn't find anything conclusive.

I like gadgets, one reason I am here. So, naturally, I thought it would be cool to have a gadget on a gadget. A keyswitch on a laser.

So, after looking at all these lasers and hosts, I've come to realize some do and some don't come with keyswitches.

Are they required on certain size lasers? If they are on a laser that does not require them are they a hassle or a nice safeguard?

Thanks!

If you are building the laser your self and don't plan to sell it, you don't need any to follow any of the FDA guidelines. Those are only in place for manufacturers who are selling lasers to the general public.

If you can, get one where the key can only be removed when in the off position.

I have some sort of "safety switch" on all of my builds.

Maybe I'm a little paranoid, but I just don't want other people messing with my lasers and going blind.

I keep my lasers and batteries I'n different places, both always hidden from the naked eye or plain sight just as a precaution no matter what

That's what I was thinking, Jim. I like extra safety.

It also helps to prevent accidental igniting/exploding of your pants when you're carrying a portable.

Somebody I know accidentally had a high-power LED torch go off in his pocket for a good while. He got some nasty burns on his leg.
