Well, I have been wanting to do something like this for a while and I am trying to find the material for it now, but if I put a weed eater motor on a bike and ride it on the street is it legal? I know here in ohio the age for riding a moped (legally) is 14. So is what I am trying to make considered a moped? and if so do I need a license?

Heres what it looks like: How to power your bike with a whippersnipper motor

Thanks,
Trever

I am not sure about the states but here in Canada I believe you don't need a special license for anything under 50cc. Something like that may apply there too.

Thats pretty good to hear. I hope that applys in the states also

Contact your local police department and ask them to be sure
you can drive it on public streets...

Things like that are usually allowed if on private property but
not guaranteed....

I wouldn't of thought so, you can get them electric bikes so I would of thought the same rules apply to that ?

I would think that you will be allright so long as you don't do something like get on the expressway

In Ontario, you dont need a special lic for motorcycle under 50cc, but
you do need a full drivers lic for a car and insurance, plus all the signals
brake lights etc, and valid plates or permit.

To the OP, electric would draw less attention IMO..

ROTFLOL!
In the EU, you'd never get away with something like that on a public road.
Wild, wild west.

Only DOT approved vehicles are allowed on the street. You will need all lights, mirrors, dot tires....... and then a ton of money to have it inspected and registered. It would have to be manufactured by a registered manufacturer which can provide a MSO or manufacturer statement of origin which will later be used to get a title from the dmv

Or have an orange flag sticking up from it....like in my town.

We have old people in enclosed golf carts with giant tanks of propane on the back for heaters....

in california it is not legal. but what is legal. and the only reason i know is because a local guy was in the paper...

you can use your weed eater engine to power an electric generator and use electric motors as your drive wheels. and that would be street legal. assuming you added the necessary saftey features. like stop/tail/ and signal lights.
