If greens are say 20% efficient, can I get a 200mw DX green and somehow remove the crystal that makes it green so it is a 1W 808nm?
 





why not just buy an IR diode from ebay, plus the way the optics in a green are set up it may not allow much of the IR light out of the laser as it's used to the light coming from the crystals further front in the laser

I am not experienced enough and have already burned up a BR and a pioneer 112d diodes. I also got 2 dead reds in the mail that were DOA, lasers don't like me...yet. I want it in a concealed pen too, I guess I can ask someone to build me one and I'll pay for their time.
 
Whats better for an IR pen; 780nm or 808nm? I know 780 is more visible. But is there a big difference? Because 780nm is more expensive and only comes in 300mW Max. Where 808nm comes in 1000mW for $50.00

780nm is pretty cheap, you can buy a 100mW fully built 780nm module from Aixiz for $20.
 
cool, i might buy one, but thats wat i say about all cool stuff :P
 
I have a question: I know powerfull 808nm diodes are multimode and have crap beams but could you achieve TEM00 and a decent M[sup]2[/sup] factor with 1064 DPSS?And what's the efficiency of the 808nm to 1064 nm conversion? :-/
 
I was going to post a new thread, but it seemed like a good idea to ask here. I just received an 808nm 1watt diode from a purchase on ebay. It has a 9mm base so a housing is going to be tricky to find :( I have no idea what to do for the driver, my multi meter is good for 400ma and this thing needs 1400ma :o The specs are as follows:

WAVELENGTH (nm): 808 -+ 5nm.
THRESHOLD CURRENT (mA): <350
CURRENT MAX (mA): <1400
VOLTAGE NOMINAL (VDC): < 2.2
WAVELENGTH TEMP COEFFICIENT (nm/DEG Cel): 0.3.
EMITTING AREA FACET (MICRONS METRIC): 100X1
3 PIN
SEALED UNIT, HEAT GLASS.

Please help! I am dying to fire this thing up, but dont want to pull a n008 on this one!

Normally the efficiency is lower than expected. In a good DPSS cavity, with temperature monitoring, with a 1Watt 808 you will get around 178 mW of green(average). Usually to obtain 200 mW green the companies uses IR diodes of 1,6 w.

Did you get it from the user "snoctony" ? I have the same laser diode, and I used it to build my green DPSS(after done some funny thing with it obviously ::) ::) )
I think this is a very good diode. The power is high, and if you want to run it at the max current, you must glue it to a big heatsink, since at this power it becomes very hot.
Now I run it at 1,5 amp, by using LM317 with 0,82 ohm 2W resistor(and others components of course).
I built this driver only with theory considerations, because my multimeter was broken. The LM317 has a reference voltage of 1,25 volt, so I(out)= 1,25/R . The resistor must be set between OUT and ADJ pins of the LM317. Anyway you should search for the datasheet to find more information.

Yes. But the efficiency is crap and demand is so small that you can't really get 1064 DPSS above 100mw.
