Interest feeler....200mw 808nm 5.6mm diodes !!!

Folks, in my ongoing search to find more items to carry in my online store, I have run across a deal for 808nm 5.6mm diodes. I am trying to judge the interest level for carrying these. Of course, my minimum order is 100 pieces, so before investing that kind of money, I wanted to see what others would think about some 200mw CW 808nm 5.6mm diodes ! Reply here if you are interested, I know they are of relatively low power, but may make a nice addition to your DIY repertoire ! The cost on these diodes would be $7.00 each (Shipped) No advance payments - I would get the diodes first, publish them, and then they would be for sale. Let me know, folks ? Thanks !!!

i really think this would be a bad idea, firstly because with your new diodes 200mw will be possible,(an extra 12 bucks for visibility would be WAY worth it IMO) and with IR/near IR(witth me atleast) all you're thinking about while playing with it isn if you've burned your eyes out, or how damaged they are.

The only time i would want ir diode would be for making my own dpss, and then 200mw would be too weak, unless if I would have an extremely efficient crystal, and they cost too much.

the other reason would be for burning things/people and now if IR i would want more power(500mw+, possible on ebay) and for 20$ in america you can get a DVD drive with a 16x red diode, and an ir diode, if you want one(althoe the arent that strong in 16x drives)< thats the main problem IMO

so i think its not worth it, you'll never get rid of all of them

I think you should sell .5 Watts because I believe that the DX and other common pointers are at least that power and I know I thought about fixing my .1 W DX after it's early death.
Now I am assuming that the 30-200mW 532 lasers use a .5 W because the current is around .5 amp.

If you sold the .2W with a good lens that would be at [smiley=beer.gif]tractive.

*sigh* back to the drawing board I cannot find a reasonable price in that power range - I DO see your point (all of you) that the 200mw ones would be too low of a power to be really attractive, and the IR danger is definitely there as well. Thanks, all !

Whats the price range on the 500mW, but more so the 1000mW? If you can get a good deal (better then $50) for the 1W, I'd be in for like 5. And I'm sure you could get the 100 needed. Considering thats the max you can diy with out using expensive C-Mounts.

You won't find quality 1000mW 808nm IR diodes in 5.6. They will all be C-mount or HHL

I don't see the point of 200mw IR diodes when you can pay a small amount more for a red diode that will have better beam specs and won't kill your eyes. Maybe if you also sold crystals people would be able to make DIY greens out of these.

Razako - 200mw of red, IR, blue, green, etc will kill your eyes, period. I am only checking the interest level of these diodes - folks have asked me to diversify, and they were offered to me at a decent price, so I figured I would check with everyone here. I cannot get a decent price point on crystals - I would lose money on the deal, by the boat load ! I cannot see buying crystal sets in the future, as they are simply too pricey for any type of quality. I will not deal with Alibaba.com, as the shipping costs quoted from everyone I have dealt with on there are astronomically high ! I could get metal cases, like the ones that Nova sells for about $3 each - but after you add in the shipping, my cost works out to be over $18.00 each for those things ! NOT worth it, IMO - especially with a minimum order of 100 - GAH ! Too much to tie up like that

I know that they will all kill your eyes. I'm just pointing out the fact that it is a lot easier to accidentally hurt your eyes with the IR. Even if you are wearing goggles the IR can reflect in from an angle and you won't know that your eyes are being hit until the damage is done. Someone might have defective IR blocking goggles and they would never know until it's too late.
