i want to disassemble my green 30mw, someone said it looked like a new wish, they sia dit was the same dx sells.
anyone know how to disassemble it? i want want to be able to focus the lens.

Basically there impossible to disassemble without completely destroying it. You wont be able to open it and focus it, the lens assembly is specially designed to colaminate the light in a way that it removes IR light. There was a focusable 50mW hand held up for sale a short time ago, if it matters.

I do think that you could be able to re-focus it. However, you would have to wreck the host and probably the module, too, if it is one of the unfocusable types.
It is not worth it. my 0.01 [ch8364].

the new wish cr2 ones dx sells can be taken apart easier to access the front lens... if you want one you can kinda focus, thats all i can think of.

this looks just like my laser (20mW), and 1) its not focusable and 2) the only way to take it apart is to rip it apart and completely destroy the host.

Actually you can take it apart.

a bit of a warning the end cap might get a bit scratched though, but is a pretty nice coppery color underneath so you could just sand of the silver color. The end caps on these lasers are press fitted into the host and feel pretty much cemented into the host. The only way I was able to get around this was to use a phase change cooler to super cool the end cap to around -50C and use a giant wrench to pry it out. After cooling it sufficiently it wasn't to hard to pull out.

What you can do to cool the end cap is open up your freezer and rest the end cap on the cooling area, this will cause the metal of the end cap to contract and will allow you to pull it out without shredding your host. Don't expect it to come out smooth as butter though it still takes quite a bit of force. I believe another member was able to take his pointer apart following this advice. I was able to pot mod my dx50 true to a 130mw peak and ~80-90mw stable, it does however use a 9mm pump as opposed to the 5,6mm which is why it has lasted so long imo.

I've heard that applying heat to the end cap also is a good way to remove it.
When you heat it up just enough, the epoxy/glue (if there is any) will soften and the cap will expand so that it can be pulled off more easily. But if you try it, I would be careful not to heat it up too much and damage the laser or melt the rubber.

come on guys you can take these apart without damage no problem.

it takes some work but it can easily be done.

also look in the front hole and see if there is a lens that has a flat tip scre driver type head and that is your focusing lens.


the two of these i have are focusable and i have taken them apart without damage.

what you can do is use quite a bit of electrical tape and wrap it tightly around the front cap and the do the same right behind the cap, put the front of it in a vise and the use some vise grips and get a very nice tight grip and twist it back and fourth and it will come off.... it isnt the easiest but VERY do able.

also a little heat may help since that causes the metal to expand.

Well, what I do is I make as nice as a cut as possible around the whole pen around where the red line is. I don't go completely through because the silver tip is tapered underneath the black housing, so I carefully cut around the whole thing making sure not to hit the module underneath. Once you've done that, you can pull the entire thing apart. It's allot of fun trying to find a way to make it look new again, usually some epoxy, some sanding, and a new paint job is in order. Typically these units have something that looks very similar to this but with a button, spring and no wires of coarse. The lenses are glued in place, so to re focus, what I do is I use a lighter and softly heat up the module from the outside which makes the lock-tight soft so you can easily unscrew the lens. However, to modify the optics so that the laser will be focusable, you will have to be very creative, although I have successfully done this. I'll post a picture how I did it...

well, i wasn't very gentle with it.....i ended up taking a torch to the end of it untill i loosened the glue and was able to rip it apart with two vice grips,

i didn't mess with the laser too much, but i was able to focus it a bit more... i made the dot about half it's original size from around 500 yards away (water tower off in distance).

i think i'll just leave it how it is now and if i want a burning one i'll just buy one.

i've taken apart many of those types wrap the end in a leather belt grab with pliers then wiggle back and forth it may take a pretty firm grip but it will come off

I'm sure I'll do this at some point, but I'll buy a cheap 5mW off amazon and risk that one, not my 20mW or my 50mW

haha yeah......i broke it, i chipped the little crystal thing above the IR laser...thats turns it green, but now i have a burning IR pen.

actually it was focusable on both ends.

the diode sat into a little module type thing, which screwed into a copper cylinder, and at the end of the cylinder the lens screwed it, so you could actually adjust it on both sides.
