Ok so I received my 1,800mW 532nm labby from meierlight today and it's running strong so far. I plan on doing a full review soon but right now I want to find something out. Now the whole setup consists of the laser head with an 8-prong female cord coming out of it and the PSU. Now the cord is about 1-1/2 ft long and I wanted to know if there is an extension cord available for this. I don't need anything crazy just a few extra feet. Here are some pics of the cord.
All help is appreciated. :thanks:
PS- I know the pics are a little blurry but I just needed to illustrate what the cord looked like to everyone. One thing that is hard to see is that there is a small notch in the head of the cord so it's not a perfect circle.
It's a standard "8 pin round mic" connector/cable. HAM radio operators use them all the time for HF rig microphones. In fact, my HF rig's handmike uses one. You can get those connectors (or even, extension cables) from any Ham Radio supplier.
Try searching "8-pin round Kenwood extension" you should find something.
Best to test the original first to see if all the lines are wired straight through, otherwise using a Kenwoond mic extension (good thinking - looking at a kenwood without mic right now) may cause issues. Just put a multimeter on beep mode and check from pin 1 to pin 1 on the cord? beep? good - move to pins 2 and 2 - and so on.
Yes, good call, Vk2fro, I had forgotten about cross wiring schemes. Just check pin continuity and you'll be good to go. If it isn't 1:1 just map it all out and make your own extension cord.
Thanks for the help guys I was pretty sure it was a standard 8 pin mic cord. Also bk2fro thanks for the good idea as far as testing the pins. I think I actually have one of the cords in my basement somewhere (brother in law stores some of his HAM radio equipment here).
Thanks again for the recommendations guys. Like I said the cord is already about 1-1/2ft long but I could just use a couple of extra feet. I'll tell you all what kind of luck I have when I try everything out.
I'd make sure your allowed to take the cord or your brother-in-law might get mighty pi$$ed off when he finds the cable for his kenwood is missing the next time he goes to use it
Hey I forgot about this thread. It turns out the cord I thought I had was a 6 pin not an 8. So I ordered an 8 pin online and when it arrived I unfortunately found out that the laser cord is actually bigger than the radio cord so the laser cord is using some kind of application specific piece. It's weird they layout is exactly the same with all the pins and the notch in the right place they're just slightly different sizes. Im planning on removing the end of the laser cord like TJ suggested and extending it on my own so we'll see how that goes. I'm probably going to use cord I ordered to make the extension.
