[HELP] Repairing my 200mW Green Laser

I accidently dropped my 200mW Green Laser Pointer which i brought from Dealperfect.com and somehow the button was turned and i couldn't press it at all, so i decided to open the laser cap and adjust it back, it was freaking hard to open, so i used a saw and cut a bit of edges for me to pull it out abit and this is the results...

It is very sad to see my laser got scatched until like this but i have no choice...

When i tried to put it back, it doesn't work anymore!
I took another closer look and notice this was broken

Is there still hope to repair this laser?
I spent my savings buying this laser and it wasn't even used for 3 days T_T

Yes, there is always hope it can be repaired but are you the man for the job?

Do you have a soldering iron? If so, then give it a go. Reattach the resistor.

It really isn't clear, however, how much more damage has been done. Firstly, by dropping it has ceased to function which can be down to a number of things. Alignment of the crystals; loss on electrical connection somewhere; damaged diode... Also, it looks like it either had to be gently persuaded for a long time or roughly persuaded for a short time to get into the thing to make any possible repairs. I suspect this may have been when the resistor came adrift. (The construction doesn't say 200mW to me either. Can any experts confirm that?)

Although there is always hope, I'm not confident that there is going to be a happy ending to this one but, with a bit of luck, resoldering that resistor could resurrect your laser. At the moment though it is demised; gone to meet it's maker; it has become an ex-laser...

You can always buy one cheaply, but pick the lower power one power one (LOWER than 30W !), and take care to buy some extra fine tips for it, such fiddly soldering business is not easy with clumbsy chisel tips or such.

It looks like DealExtreme laser.
BTW, you can slowly work the headcap off without any damage done.
You first grab helluva lot of paper tissues, and wrap a few around the head.
Grab the head in a vice, tightly.
Then grab a pair of pliers and grab the entire head barrel (paper tissues also used), and slowly wiggle the module out. No need to scratch it up.

If its just the resistor than needs soldering back on,
you can use a small flat blade screwdriver heated up
on your cooker or a blow lamp. this could be a good
time for you to get yourself a soldering iron

I tried using the small flat blade screwdriver and heat it up using cooker but it seems that the heat wasn't enough for the resistor to solder back on

I managed to find a soldering iron and a soldering wire, so i have put my resistor back into shape...

But the laser is still not working, i looked into the laser, it only had a weak red light
(I don't know why the pictures shows purple color but in real, is red color)

Has it got to do with this?
Because the other day i opened the laser, this little thing fell out and i glued back using superglue, not sure whether i got it into the correct position or not...

Or has it got to do with pot mod-ing?
I tried pot mod-ing before resistor fell out

The weak red light is harmfull 808nm Infrared light from the diode.
DO NOT look into it.

Little thing that fell off is the crystal assembly which converts IR to 532 nm green light, that is alligned with microscopical precision and cannot be put together without a whole day of work and trouble of alligning.

Your laser is pretty much done for.

Unless you can allign the crystal again (which is very unlikely), solder the resistor PROPERLY (that is a very poor solder job), you have a shot.

Other wise, I'd advise you to buy a real laser off O-like, Rayfoss, or perhaps Optotronics if you can afford it.
Your '200mW' pen was never 200mW at all, if it makes you feel better (you did not destroy a 200mW pen that is )

I am sorry for your bad luck, but crystals can be a bitch sometimes.

You will have extreme difficulties alligning it, rotation of the crystal relative to the diode is also important, and it will take time and patience.

But I don't say it's impossible, but not very easy also.

Never use super glue around optics. The fumes frost the lenses and coatings making them useless.

Never look into a laser or pump diode. It is brighter than you know. You are lucky to still have both eyes. You really need to do a bunch of reading here about safety.

you should probably get your eyes looked at by a doctor, correct me if im wrong but a 200mw green laser should be pumped by around 1W of IR which is very dangerous!
