I got a small fog machine today. I set it up in the garage. I got to actually see the beam from my blu-ray tonight. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I also got to see a few other colors, but as y'all have heard me whine about, the blu-ray was the one I have trouble perceiving.

I also stuck a mirror onto a small fan to play with along with seeing what the lasers look like through my gratings.

:oMe Likey :o

Now, I guess, I'm going to have to build a spirograph . . . Does it never end?

Now if I can just figure out how to take pictures in the dark ;)

Peace
dave

:)no it doesn't, keeps you off the streets though ;)
I have 3 major builds on the go at the moment and that isn't including the high power blue rays that I am awaiting....

haha... I just disassembled my first HDDVD from Geeks.com today. Powered it up at 100mA and crazy bright with easily visible beam ;D

Although, my second didn't fair so well... broke the little window when I was snapping the heatsink it came in, tried a little surgery (caseotomy :D) to remove the broken shards, but it didn't bring the poor diode back to full life :( Still gives out a bit of a purple dot at 100mA, but nothing compared to my first.

lighting up an incent or something that can be smoked (a hookah, or substances for college and old head use) works great too. great pics though!!!

For you maybe! :'(

I have whined about this before. My eyes do not perceive the beam until there is so much smoke in the room that my eyes are watering. It was unpleasant at best. It is a cross I have had to bear since I bought my first 11mW blu-ray.

BUT NO MORE!!!

HALELUIA!!!!!

DOG BLESS THE FOG MACHINE

I HAVE SEEN THE BEAM AND IT IS STUNNING

**weeps**

Peace,
dave

Wow, that's cool. What are the powers of those blu-rays you're shining?

If you want you can send it to me and I'll take the can off with my can opener :)

Reading from your right to left . . .

11mW Lasershopuk

26mW Milos

80mW "Pocket Rocket"

80mW MXDL

I see you turned the power up a bit on the 6x... very nice!! 8-) 8-)

Re: Haleluia!  I Have Seen the Beam!

But yours is at 170mW still, crank it up a little bit more !! ;D
I want to see the blu-ray beam too. :'(

Btw, I can't tell...
DOG BLESS THE FOG MACHINE
...was this on purpose? :-/

Anyway, about the pictures in the dark, just use the overexposure and keep your camera steady on a tripod or a stand.

sucks that you can't see 405nm very well, it is a great color :D - but fog machines are a very good tool for any serious laserist :)

Seems I lucked out about the broken window/can removal trick.. One of my XBOX 360 drives came in(DT0811...ugh). I broke the window trying to get it out of that crazy heatsink, and actually managed to "peel" the can off with tiny wire clippers. Nice and bright at 125mA!:D

Congrats on the fog machine Dave! I wouldn't mind getting one, since I have a ton of fun with the beams from my lasers at night 8-)

Freaking the cat out with about 100mW of 405 8-) Beam EASILY visible on camera, no fog/smoke, etc. Not QUITE as visible with the eye, but if you're in a reasonably dark area, you can see it no problem (except for maybe you Dave, sorry :()

I'm able to barely see the beam of my blu-ray outside when it is extremely dark. Have to do some repairs though, I accidently fried the diode (a wire broke and I soldered it back in the wrong spot . . . that's what I get for being impatient :( )
