Got this spiro off ebay for $7 shipped!

Of course I HAD to open it up.... First thing I plan to do is replace the <5mw 650nm module with my rayfoss 30mw green module.

I contacted the manufacture and they no longer offer these, however I was told the retail was $100 when they did offer them.

It makes all the usual patterns and it is also sound activated.

Starting bid was $7 w/ free shipping. Almost felt bad, it arrived priority mail!

I metered the module, 3 volts, perfect for the green.

The red module is slightly smaller diameter than the green, however there are spacers in there, when I removed the spacers, the greenie fits a bit sloppy, This is good, I can fabricate a metal sleeve and extend into the case for better heat sinking.

Of course I'll get bored with it ten minutes after I get done, but I'll put it back on ebay for a nice profit.

I have a similar sprio and did the same mod your talking about but i put a 50mw green in it what a difference it made the controls are pretty smooth the RCA sound activation works alright but the mic on mine barely works and the batteries seem to last forever. IIRC i paid $20 bucks at spencers for it 2 years ago i would definitely buy another for 7 bucks if i had the chance.

I like the color of your case better.

I noticed the mic on mine is worthless too.

I may keep mine, I have a big picture window on the front of my house, I figured a white sheet tacked over the window would make a killer projection screen.

There is a stop sign out front, and all my neighbors seem to think whatever I am doing is their business, so I know they would stare at my house wondering WTF is Wayne doing now.

I keep a blanket tacked over that window now, they all stare in my window otherwise, and I keep my snakes in that room.

Those things are fun! I highly recommend replacing the laser that's in there with a different color. It will accept a 12mm module perfectly, all you need to do is install a driver if you upgrade to red or violet diodes. For a green module you'll need to supply it with ~3VDC.

The woman I got mine from refused to let me "tip her" after it arrived.

I felt bad that her shipping expense was equal to the winning bid.

Basically I got the spiro for free just pay priority mail shipping.

So I gave her the best feedback I could fit on the line.
