FS: Coherent 40W 808nm diode (price drop! $100!!!)

I'm selling my 40W pump diode. This is the standard "CCP" package from coherent.

Its been tested to put out over 40W @ 48A.

Still in the original packaging from coherent, this was sold to me as being brand new, and it definitely looks the part.

This diode is PERFECT for side pumping an ND:YAG rod with absolutely no additional optics needed for focusing into the rod. Just place the diode along the rod, about a half a millimeter away.

This diode will also need to be cooled. A large aluminum heatsink with TEC would be perfect.

This will cut glass, light things on fire, and be a GREAT DPSS pump.

The price is $150 + shipping. EDIT: Price dropped to $100 + shipping! They go for about double that amount on ebay.

just for some personal info, these diodes need to be attached to further equipment in order to properly work? they do not work like normal Lds that just need power and lenses?
 
This diode is like any other diode, all it needs is power. About 2v at 48A to get full power.

Other than that it just needs cooling, just like any other diode.
 
I'm still learning about amps and stuff. What kind of power source will i need to get 2v and 48 amps ?
 
You will need one helluva PSU to get 2V@48A. A large step-down transformer coupled with a rectifier, filter caps might work but you still gotta somehow regulate the current...

The easiest way to power this would be to use a rewound microwave oven transformer, along with a variac to adjust power.

Add in a rectifier and a few filter caps and you're set!! For more info on this, check out mariomaster's thread on this very subject. This is how he powers his diode and it works great.

Or, buy a low voltage high amperage power supply :evil:

as far as the threshold... I'm not really sure. I'd guess around 10 or 15A

I've got an old-type, flash-based ND:YAG rod; does it work with that?
Also, how does one get the beam to colimate?
