I bought the High-Power 200mW Red Laser Pen from deal extreme , inside is a little pot meter
But does any 1 knows how much you can turn it up ( or is that a really bad ideah to crank it up a little )

It depends on how much you are on lasers, and how much do you mind to ruin it. Lot of times we want to push our lasers a bit more, and more, and more... and we end up popping the diodes. That laser is almost close to spec, and remember that a pushed diode lasts shorter. Anyway its up to you. On my experience: Keep one untouched, make experiments with a spare. This way you won't feel so bad when you pop one of them ;)

BTW IIRC I have ~10 hosts built from this laser. I like the batts, and the ease of modding this host has. See my last mod of this host here: DX-dilda-rkcstr-445nm MOD I have just killed a bee at 6ft some minutes ago with it.

So the diode in this laser pen is already pushing out more than it's own spec ?

I did turn the pot a quarter left and right with my dilda but the output stays the same. There isn't any differences at all. I put it back to the default setting.
You can try it with very small step left or right and see if there is any difference.

Ok thx and yeah doesn't make any difference if you turn it to bad ...

That setting gives the pot maximum ( or minimum ) resistance. The laser gives maximum output, it can't get any higher.

If the diode get too much current it can die and no it won't explode. :)

Good choice. Turning it up won't increase the power and will shorten the life of the laser and increase battery consumption.

I heard using 3.6v Juice batteries can increase the power. Someone please correct me if wrong

On DX dilda's some drivers support 2x3.6v other don't. Some drivers have been burnt using 3.6v batts. These 3.6v batts fully charged put out 4.2v and 2x4.2=8.4v. I have blown out some of these, and I generally don't use on these host other batts that the 3.0v, unless I put a new driver inside. For sure you can grow the power in this hosts putting 3.6v but, how many time? I prefer not to take risk on this crappy drivers :yabbem:

hmm well a few milliwatts , like 20 or something you won't even see / notice so just keep it @ 6 V hey thank you for the help :) ( I'ma noob when it comes with laser pointers )

im really guesing the answer is no but is there any way around dx's dumb no laser over 5mw shipped to the us rule? and i already no one with is modding it:scowl:

BTW it can light a sigaret im a little surprised

If you want more power, you have 2 options.

Build one yourself and you can get >300mW with good components.

Or swap out the stock lens with a 650-G-1 lens or LarryDFW's hi-power 650nm lens in the brass nut.
The high power lenses will yield ~25% more power.
Check my signature for a link to a review of the lens...

My current high power red laser is a LOC in a chrome pen pushing 305mW average, peaking at 315mW when cool. DIY is the way to go.
