Do i need laser glasses for laser






Most members here would say yes.

However, As long as you are aware of the dangers and don't do anything silly you should be ok. What you need to be very carefull of is "Reflected" light from the laser. If the beam hits something and it's reflected back into your eye you have a serious problem.

Better to be safe than sorry. No second chance with high power lasers.
 
Well, in my opinion if it is outside, in the dark, and you are shining it at the ground, trees etc then yes you would “want” glasses the reason being is at night your pupils are opened up more letting in more light, and if you are staring directly into the laser dot at 15 feet away it may hurt your eyes more than you think, but if you are shining it in the sky then no you don’t need them, at least I don’t use them because who doesn’t want to see a beam of light in the night sky? :)

Diffuse reflections (i.e. those you'd get from a tree or the ground) at 15ft from that laser aren't going to do any harm no matter how much your pupils are dilated. My concern would be specular reflections from things like windows or random shiny objects though. :beer:

Since your going to try burning stuff yes get some proper eye safety. I know you didn't say your going to try burning with the laser but I'm sure you'll end up doing so.

No you don't need an ir filter. 405nm is on the other side of the spectrum. Curious why you thought to ask this specifically.

IF you do hit yourself in the eye with the laser don't come back here asking if you should see a doctor. The answer will be yes and there is a high chance of getting flamed.

The likely maximum power of that laser will be ~80 mW. Not a very high powered laser. It can only burn by focusing the dot down to less than 0.5mm and will only happen at very close range. Those cheap red google are good enough for this laser. As long as you don't get a specular reflection from glass or a mirrored surface the dot will not harm you even up close. If you want to burn anything with it make sure it is black. Black objects absorb light better than anything else and this little laser is going to need all the help you can give it.

If you're careful and exercise disciplined beam control the risk of injury should be minimal. By that I mean always point the laser away from you and into the sky. Don't use a laser with a permanent on switch

Accidents could happen anyway though so it's up to you how much risk with your eyesight you're willing to take

Laser power is an important factor here of course. The higher the power the higher the need for glasses should be.

For a guy that opened a Thread about being
hit in the eye with a Laser... and asking for

I've never claimed to be knowledgeable or an expert of any kind. I guess it's up to every person individually if they want to take the advice of an anonymous stranger on an internet forum or not.

You seem to enjoy reading and responding to my posts though, so at least there's that :fightin:

Norway is small country and there's no dubbing of movies here. Because we're constantly exposed to English speaking content most people become good at it.
