DIY Beam show?

Just thinking about building my own Red, Green, Violet setup to create beam shows such as

(There were a few animated avatars here that showed some really nice, professional beam shows that got me interested. Brewcity's avatar is also a great inspiration)

I have eight P4 hyperthreading 2.8Ghz and better (all the way up to a dual quad core server) computers to control or create the shows and a 700W fogger (from my weekend DJing) but I'm totally out of the water on what I need to do or buy to create a DIY scanner.


Anyone have a FAQ or work log on their build?

Check this thread. And this DIY sound card DAC tutorial which will allow you to control your future scanner from your computer. If you thoroghly read these threads and also do some searches here on LPF and on www.photonlexicon.com you should be able to find out pretty much everything you need to know about building a DIY scanner. Also, check the scanner group here. To browse scanner parts (laser, galvos, etc.) I recommend looking at www.lasershowparts.com

I have never built a scanner but reading all of elektrofreaks write ups and tutorials really got me in to finding out more. here is a wikipedia link i have been reading.
