Hey guys , sorry for long delay w/ maintenance last night

It is possible we will be moving to dedicated server soon and I needed to work a few things out. i tried to pick hours at nighttime to avoid to much interruption. got most of the work done and we are in great shape should a move be needed

new server would further improve performance and save time due to easy backup plan.

I'm happy to test - just PM or post details when you're ready. Does vB licensing allow you to run multiple copies simultaneously, though? And, if you are changing many things, you may want to consider modifying the position of the banners - currently, the top looks very "busy", and takes half a page just to scroll past. You may be better off with one banner in the top-right, and the logo in the top-left. Then, you could have a text banner later, perhaps in the footer, or a side-bar as well?

When moving, are you going to keep the old YaBB forum on here (for search engine reasons it's a good idea to do so)? You might be able to convert everything to text-only content using a web spider/crawler or similar, and save you space and processing power (with restrictions of not logging on or posting, obviously).

hey charliebruce, yeah i am working on making the top less cluttered. i had to remove old yabb b/c causing too much overhead on server with all the flatfiles.

if u want to test please email me your ip address so i can whitelist on the firewall






after i do this...

in order to test need to edit your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file to have this line:


216.245.212.162 www.laserpointerforums.com laserpointerforums.com lazarus.laserpointerforums.com

make sure to comment out the line with a # in front of the ip address when u are done testing or just delete the line and save file


to verify u are hitting the new ip address try pinging.com laserpointerforums and see if it resolvs to new ip correctly. also good idea to clear cookies

Hey avery, great work. I've tried to test and I just get an error message. "the website you are trying to reach is not accesible"

Also, please reinstall the chat feature. It was amazing and I'm sure if you need a bit more cash to get a server abla to hold the chat, iI'm gonna be the first in donating again :D

i need to add ur IP to firewall whitelist thats why it no works heh

i will put a new chat feature soonm but the other one had serious issues
 
I've don't got static Ip, however I can always send you the new IP each time my router get reseted :P
 
what's suposed to happen now? We are navigatin the forums through the new server instead the normal server?

I can't find any difference xD
 
I haven't found any problems yet either.

@Cold, do you want us to test anything in particular?
 
I'm good so far... I've posted... then edited the post... then added a link...
tested the link... the edited the post...

All with no problems... don't know what else c0ld wants us to test...

hey guys, yeah the purpose is just for testing.. i want to make sure the new server runs smoothly

the test server is not a live mirror on this site so change back the hosts file if you are not testing.


main things to test... attachments, email notifications, PMs, searching


nice logo btw kikb0t, do u use freebsd?
