Hey guys,

I am working on a driver for the 445nm A140 (harvested from a casio projector). I am wondering if anyone has tried pulsing this diode at higher than recommended currents at high frequencies.

Does anyone know what the maximum current ratings are; and if the laser would be more likely to break from high current density or from heat.

If the laser burns out from high current density then I don't think pulsing it would help, but if it burns out from heat then maybe pulsing the diode at a high frequency could work.

Thanks for any info,

John

Hey John, that's a good question... However I am Ill equipped to answer that. I am still learning about these diodes myself, not sure about the higher frequency. Maybe someone else here would know that answer?

AFAIK as you get close to 2A, the output does not increase much any more.

I would suggest you keep it 1.8A or under. If you have an efficient diode you can get around 2W with a G-1 lens with 1.8A. Any more and you are risking your diode for very little gains.
