I came up with a DIY idea for a driver heatsink. I started out with this -

It's a copper reduction bushing for plumbing. I picked one up at the hardware store for a buck or two.

After some quality time with the hacksaw and a fracking big hammer, I got this -

33 grams of delicious copper. This will get cut down further and glued onto a FlexDrive. Should be enough material there for a few cheap heatsinks.

I feel like that it would be a lot easier to just get some thin copper plate :P

The advantage here is that it's cheap and available pretty much anywhere. Also, the quantity is better suited to small scale DIY interests. That, and making stuff is fun:p

^ ~3mm is a great size.:D That should be enough for any of our needs.:)

Great idea, I have another that I used to do:

Since most of our hosts are circular on the inside, a curved sink is better on heat transfer then a flat or hammered one.

Before I had a mill or lathe, a simple way to do it was to get a flat copper disk, the same diameter of your internal cavity (or if you have a lathe or mill, then its no problem reducing it to the required daimeter) of where you are planning to put your driver, and simply cut off an edge off this copper disk. Now upon the cut edge you just did, you have a flat plane to attach your driver, and the outer disk can fit nicly with lots of contact on host's side.

Nowdays I just turn it to the size I need then mill it flat, but this method can be done with a hacksaw and a file with enough patience, but essentially like so:

(A crude drawing I know, but it should get the point across)

Cheers.
