I had a little fun with my laser last night and placed around 20 little mirrors on the wall around my room and bounced the beam off each one, I have to say it did look awesome although after each mirror the beam seamed to get bigger and bigger and I ended up with a 5cm beam which is actually visibale in a room with no smoke and looks rather odd.

Where can I get really cheap 1st surface mirrors?

Inside old 3.5" hard drives. The metal disk is a mirror. You might need some star tipped screwdrivers to get it out. Also the disk is very easy to scratch and get fingerprints on so be carefull holding it.

Do laptop or Ipod hard drives have these disks?

Edit:
Yeah, they do. They just have tiny ones  ::)

I bought about 16 FSM a while ago from some surplus website in anticipation of building a lot of spirographs... never got around to that though. I think I paid like $30 for all of them. I'll sell ya 10 of them for $10 shipped (IIRC you live in the UK, which is fine) if you want, just PM me. They're 3.5cm diameter.. pretty small but effective.

edit: I remembered the website, Surplus Shed

there's some.

and my mirrors have been accounted for now. sorry to anyone else that wanted them.

The little dental mirrors Dentists use to examine your teeth are excellent first surface mirrors.
allelectronics.com has them for a buck each.

I have a large number of FS mirrors from Minolta DLP lens assemblies.

Mirrors are 1.5" x 2" and 2" x 2".

They have a plastic holder around the mirror for mounting.

flatbed scanners use fs mirrors (and other interesting stuff) that you can cut to size, i wrote something about this in the tutorials section.

Someone commented "The card says "Copper backed..." which suggests that this is not 1st surface, but silvered behind the glass, protected with copper..."
