Yes. You should limit the current to about 250-300mA.

keeping with the 16x theme i guss how about a LG 16X SUPER-MULTI TRIPLE FORMAT DVD WRITER GSA-4160B?
 
That should be fine. Just research up and make sure you dont find a flat one in that player.
