I just bought a red 240mw laser here

Anyways, i was just curious is there any place you can buy glasses in store?

Or are they all online only?

I have been creeping around here for a couple weeks and have seen some on dragon lasers (which they don't ship lasers to the US, do they ship glasses?), o-like, ebay and some other places.

I don't know what the best bang for my buck is.

Thank you all.

(I have searched, and found a couple pairs, i just want some recommendations from you all!)

O-like and DragonLasers will ship to US, even lasers and everything, even though they say they won't. They are just obligated to write that on their website.

But in any case, ordering goggles is perfectly fine, no matter where you live or what's their shipping policy.

O-like has some good goggles, for good prices.
Dragonlasers have best goggles at ... steep prices.

Take your pick, but know one fundimental thing:
Common sense is best protection against lasers.

Thank you!

But is there any US based store, or some place where you can buy them in-store in the US. I'd rather not have to wait 2-4 weeks.

Thanks again!

(Yeah, I would like to keep my eyesight, and goggles are necessary!)

Hmm I am not sure but I think LaserGlow ships from Canada, if that's close enough to you:
Laserglow Technologies - Handheld Lasers, Alignment Lasers and Lab / OEM Lasers

Again, not sure though.

You say you want protection against red lasers, correct?
Hmm, I know Radiant is US store:
Radiant Electronics - Home

But they only have protection against green and blue. You might want to pick those up too, since you're going to have to sooner or later.

That's annoying, damn FDA haha.

And why do you say i might want to pick up green and blue protection?

I will probably end up buying two pairs of goggles so a friend can look at the laser with me.

tough decision...

You will not stop on red lasers, that's why I'm saying it. Sooner or later you'll realise "Oh, I could use a green/blue/violet laser just to compare or for novelty or because they are cool". Just as we all did. And never regretted it.

Anyhow, what about FDA?
Glasses are perfectly legal in any country under any shipping policies.

From wherever you pick them, they will get to you.

Oh i was just saying screw the FDA because there are many US based companies if any selling lasers, therefore a lot less availability of glasses in the US. So in a domino effect, the FDA sucks haha.

Any type you personally reccomend, and yes your probably right i will probably get a blue laser eventually, blue is my favorite color. It may just be a low powered one though.

Out of my collection of protection goggles, I never actually had ones against red.

Dunno, reds just weren't that powerful and frequently used as blue/violets were.

But in any case. I'd reccomend getting these from O-like:
Red laser safety goggles/590-780nm protective goggles [OLRLG650] - $14.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

If you do not like waiting, you can add express shippign service to you cart:
fast shipping service : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

Also, once you get them, make sure to do a review. I don't think I've seen review of those goggles anywhere actually. I do know O-like won't let you down though.

Even if something goes wrong, you can contact them and they'll make it right in no time.

If you have MSN or Skype, you can add their representative and chat with her in real time. She goes by the name of Susie and is very friendly. Use simple English though :)

Thank you so much!

That helps a lot.

No problems. Any questions, you can shoot them over to me via Personal Messaging (PM) and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Be safe :)

FYI - The O-Like are certainly better than nothing, but for higher powers, over 200mW, I would invest in something better.

The amount of light that gets through seems to be relatively high.

I'll post a short review tonight.

Well, they are rated ad OD5, which means 10W laser would end up being reduced to 1mW, but still, I don't think going over 200mW is anything short of safe still.

But please do post a review.

Site is not coming up right now... but I think we may be talking about different goggles.

If not, I HIGHLY doubt that they are OD5. A dot from a 250mw laser looks significantly brighter with these on, than a dot from a 1mw red laser.

For burning at a distance of 1-2 feet, the dot is unpleasantly bright. I'd be more concerned but I don't need to do any burning. If I did I would DEFINITELY invest in better goggles.

Idk, maybe that's the way they are supposed to be, but a 1W 445nm dot with proper goggles is barely noticeable, and certainly is not too bright to look at even at close distances.
