Affordable XY scanner - where to buy?

I'm looking for a XY scanner, preferably something that comes as a complete set - galvo's mirrors, and mechanically assembled in such a fashion that its basically a matter of mouting it and pointing a beam through.

Do you guys have any idea on what good options are to buy?

The only thing i need is the galvo/mirror assembly - i'm quite comfortable with electronics and can rig a sound card dac/driver and such myself. Quality/speed is not really essential, its more for experimenting, so anything that works reasonably well to 20k would suffice.
 





Let us know how you get on fellas, ive got a 150mw 532 labby sitting here doing nothing, make a nice cheap little setup.
 
Based on the pics on their site, their 20k set is the exact same as the scanLSP 20 set that lasershowparts sells. I figure I'll drop the $88 and find out if they actually are the same, and then do a review on them. They might have a different design these days. $88 isn't much money to spend for galvos, so I'm already expecting caveats.
 
$88 for the complete kit seems like a very cheap deal indeed. I'm a bit confused by the info though: does it run off 220 volt mains, or from 24v/1a power supply? Or is the latter the output to the actual scanner motors?
 
Right, so bascially for this $88 and a souncard-dac i'd be done with the whole ordeal?

Sounds like a very afforable deal to me, especially with a 803-sled-based RG(V) as input and just a laptop controlling the whole bunch :)
 
.. I contacted spacelas, the unit is $88 indeed, but shipping is going to cost $45, which seems excessive. I'll see if we can work something out there, seems like an interesting unit to give a try.
 
You might be able to get them to use a different courier or postal service. They normally ship via EMS or DHL I think, and the stuff gets to you in 3-4 days as opposed to 2 weeks...
 
They prefer to ship with expensive methods so that you can't blame the shipping company for breaking your scanners. I don't think it makes a difference in the way they are handled though :p
 
Can you provide a link to this blasting by Bill. I would like to read it for my self and do my own judgment of it as I plan on buying this $88.00 set and see just what it will do.

I would take what Bill says with a grain of salt. Although there is usually some truth to what he says, he lives in a pretty high tower and looks down on most things that aren't up to his standards. Reviews from typical users has been good for these scanners. It's crazy to compare them with a set of $1500 scanners.
 
I'll ask for shipping options.

As far as performace goes: I wouldnt expect this set to be comparable in performance to a $1000+ one. For 88 bucks, it would be nice to get something that allows writing some text on a remote wall or create some liquid-sky/tunnel effects. These things don't really require that much speed and precision, but would still be a nice starter project in projection.

If i can get it at a reasonable shipping cost, i'll give it a go. Perhaps even just driving it with a PIC to begin with to make some basic patters without rigging a proper dac and compensation amp (though that -seems- easy enough, anyone got a schematic on the latter?).
