I was wondering what I would need to create a test load for a 300mw 808nm diode.

From what iv read I have come to believe that 3 1n4004 diodes and a 1ohm 1/2watt resistor are all I would require for an 808nm

Could pleas get someone to confirm this b4 I go ahead attempt this.

Thanks

You have to match the voltage of the diode you are going to use.. In this case
an 808 is around 2.2v.

Because its a low current you can use 3 x 1N4001 diodes in series with a
1ohm resistor.

All you need then is a multi meter to measure your current..

Already asked this can confirm it by wannaburn..
Also planning a 808nm build :D

While I can't confirm this through experience, I see no reason why this wouldn't work as supposed.:)

If you are using a linear driver it doesn't even matter that much how much voltage
the testload drops exactly...;)

Switching drivers are different though.

Would the same test load be valid if you were setting up the driver to use more amps? say... 10Amps for a nice number. Would you need to use more diodes to imitate the current draw? or still just simulate the voltage drop?

First the lowly 1N400X rectifier diode can only handle
1 Amp Max... at 10 Amps they would no doubt glow
before disintegrating...

The Rectifier diodes are there to mimic the Voltage drop
across a Laser Diode...
They do not regulate the current.. The driver does that...

ahhh it just clicked. I kinda understood that before, but I got it now. Thanks!

Sorry for bringing back a dead thread!
