I found some really small (1inch x .5inch x .5inch) motors that are rated 20,000 rpms @ 150ma. is that too fast for a spiro? :undecided:

Nothing is too fast for a spiro :p
But if you build it make sure to add a nice pot and a reversing switch! The reversing switch is especially necessary if you use three motors.

Just make sure those mirrors are really tightly attached, you don't want a little mirror flying off through your room at a crazy speed.

I'll bet you could take the motors out of a couple of old Dremels, for 40,000 rpm speeds. That would be AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rob

From a couple of feet the patern would probably look like a solid disk lol and you'd need to shine it on a far away surface to see the spiro patern.:d

I didn't even think of that, but your prob. right. GOOD CATCH PS Could use the speed controls that would come WITH the motors though...........rob

Acutally, I'm using pager motors on mines, which are rated at 7200rpm 1.5V, and I'm running them at 5V with no problem. But! with the mirrors its MUCH less. and even considering this, at very high speed you get crazy paterns.

You won't get the mirror spinning at 20000 rpm, this speed is without charge :p
