    My New Pocket Blu-Ray

Nice tight package. I like that you saw it's potential and waited for the right components to come along (Dr. Lava & BluRay).

You need some cellulose in this thread. I still think that this looks nautical, what about a tripod? Your hands are going to get tired holding that for too long.

The cutter would not need to be a wire supported on either side of the material, it could be a narrow U shape that could be plunged. Corners might require a lift and rotate.

Looking good Monger. It makes me think of an old nautical navigation instrument. :)

You could make a hot wire cutter.

For your tail cap, you might consider using a set screw through the side. I know this will require a tool for removal, but batteries last a long time. Threads can be a real pain to cut.

The safety glasses are a must, especially with the invisible wavelengths. These will allow you to focus your beam safely, and more effectively. OD=optical density, the negative logarithm of transmission. Someone posted a chart that shows the amount of light attenuated at each OD #. This forum...

They are often used to "pump" solid state lasers. I don't know what power level you will need. I've seen...

    XBox 360 HD-DVD DT0811 Sled Diode I-P Plot

Two apologies in one thread. Sorry, wasn't thinking.

    XBox 360 HD-DVD DT0811 Sled Diode I-P Plot

Sorry for the stupid question, up until this point I thought hd and blu-ray used slightly different wavelengths. This looks good! Is the DVD diode on these sleds anything special?

    What wavelength is this emitting?

Why ir? Get on ebay, you'll find ir diodes up to 100watts. 1-3watt usually can be had for under $75.

I think that the only way to know is with experimentation. You should be prepared to go through a few diodes on your quest. My advice would be to go with one diode >1watt infrared. Just find the power level you need to do the job. You can easily spend all your creative energy trying to combine...

I think that I will end up using these for switching the lasers as opposed to the esc. http://www.dimensionengineering.com/PicoSwitch.htm

Thanks. I like the contradiction of the steampunk aesthetic and a modern technology like a laser. This is what Jules Verne would have liked to carry as a gentleman's sidearm. It is definitely nice to hold, and I find this orientation easier to aim than a pen style form, but that's secondary.

I'm imagining one with a laser attached to it! ;) Now that is a beautiful idea! Can you imagine a wireless XYZ laser show! Take it to the Grand Canyon or downtown Manhattan, a tight mountain valley covered in snow... You could blow peoples minds. This needs to be incorporated into a swarmbot...

Yes, a gyro mounted to the goggles "steers" (2) servos in a pan/tilt mount. The best part is that it's all off the shelf components. This is all my childhood fantasies come true. I really do love the Forums, we're the next big thing. Check the credits at the end of the video, he specs all the...
