Bringing a laser in the USA

Thanks for the responses. Just to let you know I would not even be considering putting them in my hand-luggage but this topic concerns my CHECKED luggage. Sorry for not making that clear before.

Bringing a laser in the USA

Are these illegal to import? I'll be travelling to the US soon and am just wondering if there's some nutty federal law that prevents this?

Stuiped person shine laser at police helicopter

Re: Stuiped person shine laser at police helicopte At the end of the day people get punished for abusing lasers, just as misusing firearms gets you into trouble. So being responsible is ok. Once the state makes a blanket ban on lasers just like firearms, that, my friends, is tyranny and its a...

Hmpf, almost got busted by a fellow "laserist" ^_>

Re: Hmpf, almost got busted by a fellow "laserist" No but the guy is a dck, just tell him to stop acting like a pssy and trust you. With great laser power comes responsibility. It's OK to groove about and fire your laser in public, just don't fire it into anyones eyes while your playing. The...

    Laser self defense?

Hard to shoot if you're blind man. This would be the daddy! It's being introduced in Israel for shooting down mortars and rockets: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Tactical_High-Energy_Laser

My Diodes laser beams dot is big, is this normal?

Re: My Diodes laser beams dot is big, is this norm hang on... I don't think it has a built in regulator AFAIK. I have a seperate driver which does that. Ok, I've stripped down the exterior housing (shell) ahhh, now I see the focusing ring. I'm turning and adjusting the ring now... Yes, its...

My Diodes laser beams dot is big, is this normal?

Re: My Diodes laser beams dot is big, is this norm Yeah but the lens is so far recessed I doubt I can easily get to it. Damn, I wish I knew this before I'd installed the laser into the housing and mounted it :( They should ship these pre-focused when Stonetek ship them out. Bugger!

    Laser self defense?

Some defeatism here, basically you can act like a pssy or you can try and defend yourself which everyone is entitled to. Don't be a victim. Here in the UK robbery at gun-point is pretty rare. Gun crime tends to be the druggy gangs fighting amongst themselves. Knives are big threat here.  And...

My Diodes laser beams dot is big, is this normal?

Re: My Diodes laser beams dot is big, is this norm This is interesting because it is indeed inside a module but turning the housing did not seem possible, unless you mean exposing the back end of the module (where the pins are) and turning that instead? Is this what you mean? Cheers KM

My Diodes laser beams dot is big, is this normal?

Just finished constructing my targeting laser and the beams area is not a dot, but more of a small torch beam. Is this a normal trait for the diode I have. Here's the diode: http://stonetek.org/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=180 The diode is this one and the beam...

    Laser self defense?

The laser would work, trust me, you get hit in the eyes, the only thing that they can do is fight blind. Listening to the posters who've taken a hit accidently I think a good hand held laser is very much an 'equaliser' in the right hands. It's also perfectly legal to carry one in the UK too ;)

What do you use your laser (s) for?

Yeah cool. There are a few practical uses for lasers. Besides as a targetting aid they make great defensive weapons in some attacked scenarios and can be used for fire starting in the wild. These are just a few that spring to mind! :D

    Sony's newest RED DIODE

Possibly lacking when it comes to portability applications for battery drain and so on. So I think this will be good for base units on mains electricity but maybe not for a small unit 'on the move' :)

    Targeting Laser

Ok, just checked on stoneteks site and 2 reviews rave and woo with stories of it exceeding 250 mA for long periods. I'm not the worried now, the reputations will have to be its wings ;)

    Targeting Laser

I get just under 300 mA of juice (using the I = V/R) equation. Is this too much for the diode to handle? Wait! Just done some checking via: http://stonetek.org/shop/SLD1239JL-54.pdf According to the manufacturers the max rating is 170 mA. Now here's where it gets interesting. The pot will...

    Targeting Laser

Ok, slight change of plan. Gonna be using the original housing for the 9V battery and another housing entirely for the laser.
