Short the cap? Hrm i did test the cicuit with a LED and that probably charged up the cap, then I soldered on the LD... So you're saying the cap discharged through the LD blowing it?

Yea I think it does get kinda warm.... How could I have blown it if I set the current to 30 something to start with... I didn't see a big flash of light either :/

I saw on a site that the current was rated from 70mA to a max of 90mA. I have it inside a axiz housing. I turned it back down to around 40mA since I saw that everyone was around there. I was real careful to quickly solder the legs to the wires and i kept it in a static bag... It would focus but...

I just finished my blu-ray laser with the diode out of a PS3 assembly. I did a test and the light is very, very faint and barely shows up a couple of feet away on the wall. I was thinking that it was not getting high enough current but when I turned it up and measured the current to be 60mA it...

You bet it is. When I had the light in there I measured the voltage with a multimeter and it came out to 2.99 Volts.

Yea, whatever circuit is in there for the flashlight gives out the right voltage for the LD. And yes, I did mean parallel. Since senkat changed the link I can't edit it, says I don't have permission to post a link on this forum :/

I took apart my 5mW Red laser module last night and took out the diode and driver. Now could this driver be used to power one of Senkat's diodes? It's pretty small and I want to try and use it in my maglite mod. I searched the forums to see if anyone has done this or not and couldn't find...

I made a minimag laser and I am using an AixiZ laser housing. I'm still weary of it being hooked straight up to the minimag voltage since I fried my old diode with it. I'm not sure if it burned out when it shorted out or if it just gave it too much juice. Do you think a driver circuit is necessary?
