Are you feeding the driver with a 12v 1 amp capable power source? Otherwise if there's no pot to adjust I'd ask for a refund. The driver isn't setup properly.

That's not gonna really give you any control over the output; it may be full power all the time. I guess you COULD try that, but the point would be to test the PWM and if it functions. Not sure if you've already tried this but make sure you do extensive testing and monitor the start-up current. There is a very good possibility this driver will over-current on start-up. I don't see much to the circuit in the way of 'soft-start' which is required for most all laser drivers...

5mW is a plus of course but not to worried about IR unless its an unreal amount. Even if its a little over 5mw i wouldnt worry; but I didn't really want to get the regular old pen host, I wanted something a little more "executive pen" style. /edit: I do like the ll 520 though.
