Yes, I am aware of that actually. I did check with my IR converted compact camera to check the output. I do appreciate your input, but I should have closed the question since I found the problem and it was my mistake (I setup the driver module incorrectly based on the instructions from Aixiz).

Well the diode is inside one of those diode housing units. As for the lens, I have no idea of any specifics on it. The voltage drop across the diode is exactly what the specs showed, 1.8V. Unfortunately I have not actually measured the current through (it never really crossed my mind :shhh:)
