    Display current - LM317

Hey ! thanks a lot for reply ! :thanks: The point is i want some notification about current strange of the laser. So, display was my first idea. If i'll put 1 Ohm resistor between Cathode and GND (1V will be 1A - right ? :D ). Can i just use this meter Voltage meter | Ebay to measure voltage ...

    Display current - LM317

Hey, I'm pretty new at electronics. And i didn't found anything similar. Can i connect AMP meter (for example this one Amp Current Meter | eBay) between laser diode and LM317 for permanent use ? Like this: I don't know if these AMP meters are causing some side effects, which can destroy...

    Destroyed diodes - help

I read your pervious post ! I think that's the problem ! It's true my diodes accidentally disconnects some time. Thanks a lot !

    Destroyed diodes - help

I'm not normally turning diodes on without heatsink, it was just a try. I don't know exact model. I can only say it was diode from 22x DVD-RW (22x is a writing speed). Great idea with a trimpot, thanks !

    Destroyed diodes - help

So, you think it's a thermal issue. Well, even heatsink with thermal conductive paste and active cooling isn't helping. I know a lot of people, who think its a thermal issue. But how can i fix that if the diode isn't heating during dying (measured with thermometer nad without heatsink max. 35...

    Destroyed diodes - help

I know...it is my fault :D . I'm doing something wrong, but what ? :o Well, in LM317 driver i have 2x10Ohms resistors + trimer. That means max. current is 250mA. And DVD burner diodes are still dying. - Diodes are not heeting much. - Current is under 250mA. - Voltage on diode 2-3.8V (depending...

    Destroyed diodes - help

Well, i had connected Amp meter between diode and driver and played with trimer. As i sad, it happened to me also with more powerful IR diode (300mW). I tested voltage across ADJ and OUT. It's 1.23V. I noticed diode during this test died completely. Ofcourse, i just wanted to know if it's...

    Destroyed diodes - help

Hi, can someone help me here please ? I had 4 red laser diodes form DVD readers/burners. I used exacly this LM317 driver http://laserpointerforums.com/attachments/f44/33304d1308798339-small-modification-lm317-drivers-driver-250ma-out.jpg connected to 7.5V 1.5A power supply. I set the...

Laser Diode - after 10 min low brightness

You're right ! For the first time i used only 2x10 Ohms resistor (5 Ohms). This should set driver for 250mA, but the true output measured with second diode was only around 110mA (Red laser diode from 22x DVD burner). That's the reason why i added one more 5 Ohms resistor. That increased...

Laser Diode - after 10 min low brightness

Sure, I'm using 12V/1.5A power supply for LM317. Resistors are 0.6W. All of the parts except laser are in box with active cooling. I'm not using trimer/potentiometer, because it can't be set to absolute 0 Ohms. On more thing...I'm using 1N4007 instead of 1N4001.

Laser Diode - after 10 min low brightness

Well, heatsink was heating. I mean not so much as it can burn the diode (heatsink has 45 degrees at max). And yeah, that was my theory also. For last 2 diodes i used thermal conductive adhesive heatsink glue. And it was the same :(

Laser Diode - after 10 min low brightness

Hey, I bought 3 DVD drives. So, i got 6 diodes (3 red and 3 IR). I'm using this LM317 driver: http://laserpointerforums.com/attachments/f42/11711-diy-homemade-laser-diode-driver-lm317_components01_001.jpg but i added one more resistor of 5 Ohms. So the final resistance is 2.5 Ohms. I tried 4...
