Well i have extracted my DVD laser diode from a old IDE drive and its a 16x diode. i bought a Aixiz Laser Housing of Aixiz Lasers on Ebay for 5$. (the 5mw one) got the old out and pressed the DVD laser into it. went flawlessly and it works with this Driver i built ( i didnt have a 100Ohm...

Okay after a few hours of searching other sites i found this on this forum... i got 50ohm potentiometers too so thats no problem... Will it work better with a 50ohm than a 200 ohm pot?

heres the schematic i built 5 minz ago and i got all components at home but i didnt find a 100ohm pot so i used a 200 ohm pot instead... Is that ok? Will it work or can i "make" the potentiometer to 100 ohm by putting like a resistor somewhere i we heard. The diode is a Red 16x DVD combo drive...

i got now 2 diodes one where the pins are like this O ...O O and one with pins like this: O O O in a row... i assume the red visable is the non row...?

both laser diodes are now extracted and they are round but they are in a small squere Aluminium housing and ill try to get them out

Woow looked heavy duty built cause theres damping material everywhere and its nicely built labeling everything :D still not dissasambled the whole thing yet

Okay now i found another drive in my parts Room Its a NEC ND-4550A DVDr/RW & CD-R/RW Drive dunno if its 16x or 20x (now i think its a 16x drive. says 16x DVD-R/RW speed) Will that one Burn? :D

So the CD-RW means that it writes CDs? and DVD-ROM means that it reads DVDs? Am i correct?
