    Practical Uses for Lasers?

I think I read somewhere that people are actually using them to burn bugs? Unless they were referring to something bigger when they said "pest control." I don't know, it sounds silly to me, but hey maybe it works. With glasses on of course, as just the reflection of the dot on a tiny spider...

    Diodes questions....

First off, thanks for that explanation. I do understand now, so Im learning now! Its amazing all the little variables that can and will affect this. Getting closer to my first build. It seems any one of these 3 diodes can give a better beam with just 1 or 2 factors changed a little. So, I...

    Another "blue" frequency thread....

Wow, thanks for that upload. That is alot easier to understand when I see it like that. Ok, last question.....Now, since the Pl450 is visibly nicer, how much "brighter" or "visible" would the beam be on a 1.4W PL450 vs. a 3 W 9mm? I know this sounds silly, but I am curious as I haven't seen...

    Chill: M140 2 Watt 445nm BURNER C6 Host

Beautiful pics and host thanks. dave

    Another "blue" frequency thread....

Okay, I am starting to grasp it all. Now, is 150mw the highest power for a 445nm single mode diode? What is the difference between a M140 beam and a 9mm? Why would you recommend to skip the M140? Im guessing out of the different diodes the M140 looks most like a flat bar? Thanks again...

    Diodes questions....

Okay, now let's say we are talking about the Pl450 that is 1.4W. What you guys are saying is this will be a better visibility to the eye than a 1.5 W M140 or 9mm? another question.....is the 1.4W PL also single mode like its weaker counterpart? And, what determines a "straighter, more uniform...

    Diodes questions....

Ive tried searching the forum and found some threads about blue vs. green visibility, etc.etc. and many different opinions. So, I'll ask here. I am trying to understand something as far as diodes go, and beam visibility. Lets say you had 3 different diodes. PL450 single mode at 150mw m140 at...

    Another "blue" frequency thread....

Yes, I understand. What I meant to say was "more visible of a beam". I am looking to burn, yes. But very important for me is the actual beam itself. I was really trying to figure out which of these would be most visible at any given moment: PL450B at 150mw 1.5W 9mm 1.5W M140 So, if it makes...

    Another "blue" frequency thread....

Are you telling me that you have this 120mW PL450B laser and that it actually looks better than a 1W 455? Or do you mean your 1W 445 nm? I was wondering if it looked better, but at only 120mW? I was thinking it might be a bit lighter or more visible, but if they were compared side by side and...

    Another "blue" frequency thread....

Please allow me to clear up. I am fully aware of the dangers of these high power lasers and I understand they are not toys. This will however be my first 445nm laser, so I really want to learn all I can before purchasing one. dave

    Hello from Long Island, NY

Hey guys. Yes, I am aware that big brother is watching real close over here. Im on the border of Suffolk and Nassau counties, in bay shore. Right on the water more or less.

    Another "blue" frequency thread....

Yes, I saw those. I am wondering if there is any difference. The beam in the pics looks great. And I saw this PLTB450 in a pen size style on youtube by styrpyro I believe. Now, im guessing that the heat sink isn't good on something like that so, can I use the PLTB450 in lets say a Sinner...

    buying a good blue laser.....?

Got it thanks. And thanks for even going and checking. If its not a difference, I guess I will be fine. thanks Herunotsurugi

    buying a good blue laser.....?

Sounds good. Is it true that the 9mm diodes look lighter in color than the other m140? I read somewhere that 9mm makes the beam look more like 455nm as opposed to blueish purple 445? Thanks again, you can tell me if Im asking too many questions.... dave

    Another "blue" frequency thread....

Okay, so after some reading I think I might be looking into a kit to put together the perfect laser for myself as an early Christmas present. Here is my question. There are tons of kits that accept 445nm diodes. But, from what i am learning here, the real blue, not blueish purple, is more like...

    buying a good blue laser.....?

Okay great. That makes a lot of sense, considering I know a lot of flashlights have the fins for heat sink also. I didn't realize somehow, that the shiny one was SS. Silly me. Yes, i will do what you say and definitely go with aluminum. So, what determines the thickness of the beam? i...

    buying a good blue laser.....?

Hey Now!!! Those are pretty.... Are these better in any way than the SS kit i mentioned above? And with both of these, I think i need to start another thread, but any recommendations for what type of diode works best with these? I am considering getting a blue for burning, and a green for...

    buying a good blue laser.....?

Thats pretty cool. I do prefer a nice stainless shiny one as opposed to black though. I appreciate that though. I will keep looking and reading.
